At the beginning of 2016, KYOCERA
added a new series of A4 MFPs to its
TASKalfa range. The 406ci (40ppm),
356ci (35ppm) and 306ci (30ppm)
MFPs are designed to meet the needs
of workgroups that print mainly A4
pages but end up buying colour A3
MFPs because of their reliability and
extra functionality.
In particular, KYOCERA research shows
that businesses are often forced to buy
larger, more expensive devices than their
print needs warrant simply because they
want advanced finishing capabilities. The
company’s new A4 colour devices remove
the need for customers to pay more for an
A3 device by bringing highly productive
paper handling and finishing capabilities to
the A4 market segment.
The optimised A4 MFPs have a
maximum paper capacity of 3,100
sheets (500 sheets as standard); a 5-bin
mailbox (1,000 sheet capacity); an
internal 300-sheet stapler-finisher; and a
1,000/3,000-sheet stapler-finisher with
hole punch (35 and 40ppm models).
Devices can be configured to suit diverse
needs, from space-saving desktop models
to five-tray floor-standing workgroup MFPs.
Other features include duplex printing
(up to 220gsm) at the rated engine
speed; customisable touch screens (4.3 or
7in); 1200 dpi print resolution; long-life
components for a lower total cost of
ownership (TCO); card authentication; and
much more.
New A3 MFPs
Of course, many businesses still have a
requirement to print A3 and to meet their
needs, in September 2016, KYOCERA
introduced 10 new A3 TASKalfa devices
with print speeds ranging from 25ppm up
to 60ppm. These include five colour models
(the 2552ci/3252ci/4052ci/5052ci/6052ci)
and five monochrome machines (the 3011i/
3511i/4002i/5002i/6002i).
These new A3 devices have a smaller
footprint than earlier models, which, as well
as saving space for the customer, lessens
the environmental impact. All have the
same look and feel, with a consistent user
interface that speeds up deployment for
dealers and makes life easier for end-users.
Two of the monochrome A3 MFPs, the
3011i and 3511i, have been designed to
fulfil the needs of smaller organisations,
such as branch or satellite offices and small
schools or institutes. Even these have the
same user interface and security status as
the top of the range TASKalfa 6052ci and
6002i.
The new devices also include features
that simplify the maintenance, management
and replacement of consumables. For
example, the TASKalfa 6052ci and 6002i
feature a toner lock, preventing businesses
from changing the toner before it's fully
depleted.
At the time of launch, Nigel Allen,
Marketing Director at KYOCERA Document
Solutions UK, said: “These new products
are intended to solve a number of common
business issues, most notably cutting the
amount that organisations are losing on
wasteful procedures. When it comes to
document management, money is wasted
in several areas: printing is outsourced
due to the limited capabilities of in-
house printers and MFPs; toner supply

is haphazard and inefficient due to not
being managed properly; and many
separate single-function devices are used
inefficiently due to document workflows
not having been optimised.”
One of the key features of the new
models is their high quality colour printing,
with 1200 x 1200 dpi print resolution
at full engine speed. For businesses with
greater image quality needs, four of
the five colour MFPs offer an optional
Fiery print controller. To fully utilise the
machines’ colour capabilities, it is also
possible to print on special paper sizes,
such as SRA3 (full-bleed edge-to-edge A3),
banner paper, tab divider sheets and paper
of up to 300gsm. Full-speed scanning is
also guaranteed with dual scan 270-sheet
automatic document feeders.
