Frama UK has been providing
mailroom products and solutions for
the secure handling of sensitive and
financial data for over four decades.
Known for its franking machines, the
company developed the first franking
machine with integrated postage
rate calculations and was the first
supplier to introduce touch-screen
operation.
More recently, Frama has reacted to
falling letter volumes and the growing
importance of digital communications by
diversifying its offering to include digital
solutions alongside traditional mailroom
equipment. In 2015, as part of this
evolution, it introduced Registered Email, or
RMail, which enables businesses to share
digital information securely.
At a time of persistent cyber attacks,
RMail is more relevant than ever. Because
so much data, often of a sensitive
and confidential nature, is shared via
email for internal and external business
communications, email is a potential
gateway for cyber-criminals to target
businesses and access personal or
corporate information.
Email is also being used by fraudsters
to steal millions of pounds via spoofed
email messages that trick finance staff into
sending large sums of money to a supplier.
Unlike ‘phishing’, which aims to take small
sums from a large number of targets, the
new phenomenon of ‘whaling’ takes huge
sums from a smaller number of businesses.
Perpetrators do this over a period
of time by intercepting email messages
between companies and reading the
contents to the point where they are
convincingly able to impersonate the
style and language of those involved. The
attacker then sends a bogus request for
money including new bank account details
for the transfer. This looks genuine, right
down to the displayed ‘to’ or ‘from’ names,
which disguise the true email address
behind the message.
The Frama RMail platform offers a
solution to whaling attacks by providing
a secure environment for sending and
receiving encrypted business critical
communications. An add-on to your existing
email client, it lets you send any email with
256-bit encryption to protect sensitive
message contents and attachments.
RMail messages can be sent to anyone,
as there’s no requirement for a recipient to
have any software. For every message sent
via RMail, the sender receives a verifiable,
court-admissible proof of delivery including
the content of the message and a full audit
trail of who said what, when and to whom.
In addition to its security benefits, RMail

lets users track important emails so they
know when they have been delivered and
opened; send large files without the need
for a separate file transfer service; and
sign-off on documents and agreements
with a legally binding ‘E-Sign’ option.
With the growing cyber threat, no
business can afford to take short-cuts
with their data security. RMail helps
protect business and customer data
from ‘whaling’, ‘phishing’ and other
threats, with the added benefit of legally
admissible proof of communication and
delivery in case of any dispute with a
genuine supplier or customer.
