Like other printer companies,
Brother has been quietly
diversifying its product portfolio
and expertise into the related
areas of collaboration and
communication. It has been selling
a web conferencing solution,
Omnijoin, for a number of year (it
is now on Version 7), and is now
entering the wearables market
with the launch of the AiRScouter
head-mounted display.
Although there is no
technological link with printers,
conceptually AiRScouter is not a
million miles away from Brother’s
established area of expertise, as,
like its printers, the new product
is all about displaying and sharing
of information in a way that helps
people carry out tasks quickly and
efficiently.
The AiRScouter WD-200B
head-mounted display does this
by showing information within the
user’s peripheral field of vision,

so that they can view documents,
manuals, training guides, CAD
models and real-time feeds from
everything from drone cameras to
webconferencing systems while
keeping eyes and hands free.
AiRScouter is particularly
suitable for applications in skills
training, remote assistance,
manufacturing and maintenance,
as it delivers information to users
without obstructing their vision.
With the addition of an optional
detachable USB camera, users can
share what they are seeing with
remote supervisors, trainers and
colleagues, enhancing the latter’s
ability to deliver clear and precise
instructions.
The head-mounted display is
plug and play, with no need for
additional software. It streams
content from any visual device
with an HDMI output, including
TVs, laptops, tablets and
smartphones; has a wide-screen
viewing resolution of 1280x720;
and adjustable focus (from 5cm to
30cm).
A flexi-arm and headband
enable users to adjust the display
position to suit different tasks. The
AiRScouter WD-200B can be worn
with glasses and helmets.
