Toshiba: Customisation and
integration
Toshiba has updated its MFP range
with 12 new A3 devices developed
to meet growing demand for
customisation and integration with
business workflows.
In total, there are seven
new colour models, the
e-STUDIO2500AC series and the
e-STUDIO5005AC series, and
five new mono machines, the
e-STUDIO5008A series. All offer
printing, scanning and copying
as standard, with fax integration,
optical character recognition (OCR)
and pull-printing available as
options.
Highlights include:
n
a 9in tablet-style user interface,
offering ‘swipe and pinch’
smartphone-like operation and
customisation to meet individual
preferences and requirements
(e.g. background images; choice of
features and functions; and one-tap
workflow shortcuts);
n
e-BRIDGE Next controller
technology, developed from
scratch to simplify integration
into end users’ IT infrastructure
and workflows, including support
for cloud and mobile printing via
AirPrint, Google Cloud Print or the
Mopria Print Service. Optional
connectors provide direct access
to Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive
and Dropbox cloud services;
n
a Dual Scan Document Feeder
with a paper capacity of 300 sheets
and double-sided scanning at
speeds of up to 240 impressions
per minute (e-STUDIO5008A and
e-STUDIO5005AC series only); and
n
e-BRIDGE CloudConnect, a
free cloud-based service that
enables resellers to monitor
devices remotely, correct faults
and automatically schedule in and
carry out firmware upgrades without
having to send out an engineer.
If a site visit is required, remote
diagnostics ensures that engineers
know what the problem is and have
the right parts to fix it. Automatic
supplies replenishment also helps
maximise machine uptime.
In addition to these
enhancements, the new devices
include the best and
most popular features of
previous generation Toshiba
MFPs, including a secure
hard disk (with real-time 256-
bit AES encryption) that becomes
unreadable if removed from the
device; and carbon neutrality at
point of delivery, with all carbon
emissions from manufacturing,
transport and delivery offset through
Toshiba’s Carbon Zero Scheme, at
no cost to the customer.
Commenting on the benefits
of the new devices, Toshiba TEC
marketing director Jeremy Spencer
said: “Every industry sector has
unique workflow requirements, and
to cater for this diversity we have
developed systems that empower
users and give them full autonomy
and flexibility. These twelve new
models provide tailor-made, cost
effective document management
solutions that improve business
processes and effectiveness.”
Canon: A shared platform
Like Toshiba and Samsung (see
page 30), Canon, too, is making use
of cloud services and customisable
user interfaces to improve the
functionality and reliability of its
new generation MFPs.
Its flagship imageRUNNER
ADVANCE C5500 series of A3
colour MFPs features a large colour
touchscreen and customisable user
interface and a new architecture
for next level print management,
usability and integration with
business applications and cloud
ecosystems.
Due to be deployed on all future
New generation MFPs from Toshiba and Canon provide enhanced levels of
usability and manageability to maximise machine uptime and employee
productivity.
Hail the new generation
imageRUNNER ADVANCE devices,
this includes a common interface
and operating platform, providing
a consistent look and feel, options
and features across all devices,
plus the ability for resellers to
maintain and upgrade devices
remotely.
All five new models come
with Universal Login Manager
software, which provides user-
based authentication and the
ability to customise access to
MFP functions. Further control
is available through integration
with Canon’s uniFLOW output
management and smart scanning
solution.
The MFPs are designed with
digitisation in mind and feature a
time-saving single-pass duplexing
document feeder and the ability
to scan and convert documents to
Searchable PDF, Microsoft Word,
and Microsoft PowerPoint files.
Adam Poole, marketing director
for Canon UK & Ireland, said: “In
today’s digital world, businesses
increasingly need smart technology
to enable employees to work
efficiently – that thinking is at the
heart of our new devices. The value
of print lies in its ability to create,
manage and share documents and
information seamlessly across an
organisation. The imageRUNNER
ADVANCE C5500 series with the
new shared platform is designed
to reduce the administration, time,
cost and effort of this process
while boosting productivity.”
The imageRUNNER ADVANCE
C5500 series includes five colour
models offering print speeds from
35 to 60 pages per minute – the
