Reusable
notebooks for schools
Dragons’ Den winner MagicWhiteboard
is launching a campaign with the aim
of providing four million free reusable
notebooks to schools to help improve the
literacy and numeracy of children across
the UK.
The campaign depends on the generosity
and involvement of local businesses, but
to get things started MagicWhiteboard is
donating 30,000 reusable notebooks to the
cause.
Most donations will come from local
businesses that are being encouraged to
sponsor one or more schools. A donation of
£399 will provide a school with 500 reusable
notebooks printed with the logo of the
sponsoring company on the front cover and
a logo and half-page advert on the back.
Adhesive tape manufacturer Tesa has
launched a new range of Easy Cut tape
dispensers featuring Stop-Pad Technology
for one-handed operation.
Integrated on the underside of a dispenser,
Stop-Pad prevents a dispenser from sliding
across the desk when the tape is pulled.
To secure the dispenser to any flat,
clean, grease-free surface, just remove the
protective film and press the dispenser down.
Stop-Pad is easy to remove, leaving no
residue. If it becomes dirty, washing with
water will reactivate its adhesive strength.
Tesa’s three new Easy Cut Desk Dispensers
for rolls of up to 33m by 19mm are the
colourful Compact; the quirky Frame; and the
SMART made from 100% recycled plastic.
….and two of
its longest lasting
Dig around the bottom of a
desk drawer and the likelihood
is that many of us will be able to fish out
a pencil that has been languishing there
for a decade or more.
What’s remarkable about the Staedtler
Tradition pencils recently presented by a
customer to Holywood stationers Stewart
Miller is that they have been in daily use for
11 and 13 years since being bought in 2004
and 2002.
Stephen Miller said: “In this disposable
age, it’s refreshing to see something last so
well.We know the manufacturer, Staedtler,
is excellent but we have never had reports of
pencils lasting quite so long.”
A sound footing
All needs
covered
Uniball has expanded its range with the
addition of two pens at opposite ends of
the permanence spectrum.
At one extreme is the uni-ball Signo
307. For security and durability, this gel ink
rollerball features uni-ball’s tamper-proof,
light-resistant and water-resistant pigment-
based ‘Super ink’.With a comfort grip and
quick drying ink, it is ideal for fast writers.
At the other end of the spectrum is the
Signo TSI featuring the latest in erasable
ink technology. An eraser on the end of the
pen and on the cap turns the heat-sensitive
ink clear, enabling you to remove mistakes
quickly and easily without any mess. The
Signo TSI comes in 7 colours.
World’s longest pencil
STAEDTLER has set a new GuinnessWorld
Record for the longest coloured pencil.
The 459.97 metres long Noris coloured
pencil smashed the existing record of
323.51 metres.
The pencil is made fromWOPEX, a
material which has a significantly higher break
resistance than conventional pencils. Instead
of a traditional slat-based pencil production,
pencils and coloured pencils made out of
WOPEX come from a single mould. Three
different resins, one for the surface, the body
and the lead of the pencil are melted at high
temperatures and pressed through a co-
extrusion process into a pencil strand.
Staedtler says that this process, combined
with the innovative material, means the lead
is particularly resistant to breaking and glides
easily over the
paper. It
also saves
energy and
wood while
reducing
CO2
emissions.
