Lighter than a bag of crisps
Philips PicoPix projectors from Sagemcom have won fans across
Europe for their tiny size and business-friendly performance. The
latest model, the Philips PicoPix PPX 4010, is the smallest yet.
Despite being the size of a computer mouse and weighing
less than a bag of crisps, the PPX 4010 – the world’s
smallest 100 lumens LED projector – can display a
PowerPoint presentation, HD video, slide shows
and multimedia content on a screensize of
up to 120 inches (305cm), making it ideal for
impromptu presentations when a meeting room
is not available.
Because it is powered by USB connection,
there is no need for additional batteries, chargers
or power cables.
The PicoPix 4010 connects to a laptop,
netbook, tablet or any other mobile device via
HDMI. Thanks to its SmartEngine LED technology
and 100 lumens output, colours are more vivid
than ever, with a very high contrast ratio.
The projector costs £249.99 and is available
from Curry’s/PCWorld and Staples.
Protect your eyes
MMD, brand license partner for
Philips Monitors, is rolling out new
displays for home and business
users featuring SoftBlue technology.
SoftBlue protects eyes and reduces
eye fatigue by mitigating the impact
of blue-light exposure but without
sacrificing the fidelity and quality of
the original colour. Both the E-Line
and P-Line displays feature this new
technology.
Britons blame poor eyesight
on screens
Research conducted by Optical Express has
given an insight into the effect of technology
and our eyesight. The majority of participants
(73%) said their current or previous job
involved looking at an electronic screen for
the majority of the day. Of those who wear
contact lenses or glasses, 36% thought that
prolonged periods of time spent looking at
electronic screens had contributed to their
poor eyesight.
When Brook Street, one of the UK’s leading
recruitment agencies, wanted to upgrade
the boardroom at its head office, it called in
Carillion Communications.
The agency’s boardroom historically caused
complaints among users. The presentation
clarity was poor and it was difficult to manage
the equipment, which disrupted the flow of
meetings. The nature of the building did not
help matters, as legacy projectors had been
mounted to roof joists and the equipment was
subject to vibration.
Carillion overcame these problems by
installing a large LCD screen, a refreshed
ceiling-housed sound system and Barco’s
wireless ClickShare collaboration solution.
ClickShare enables users to display content
from laptops, tablets and smartphones on
the central wall at the click of a button. The
ability to queue presentations keeps meetings
running smoothly and overcomes presenter
switchover delays.
RichardWright, Network Manager at
Brook Street, said: “ClickShare is simple, quick
and easy, and even ‘busy’ content that was
indistinct on the old system is clearly visible
from the back of the room and doesn’t
pixelate if you’re sitting at the front.”
This ensures that staff and visitors to Brook
Street are involved more intensely in meetings
and the decision-making process. Several
visitors have even enquired about the system
design and have sought advice on their own
presentation facilities.

Bright, light and colourful
Vivitek has added wireless connectivity to its
new paperback-sized Qumi pocket projector,
which is also available in a choice of seven
lively colours.
With nativeWXGA resolution, 800 ANSI
Lumens brightness and a 30,000:1 contrast ratio,
the Qumi Q6 projects vivid colour images onto a
screen area of up to 90 inches (diagonal).
Holger Graeff, General Manager, Vivitek
EMEA, said: “We’ve increased the brightness
as well as the ability to easily share content –
whatever the source. So whether it’s content
from a digital camera, laptop, smart phone,
tablet, USB flash drive or even directly from its
2.5GB user accessible on-board memory, the Q6
is the perfect high-impact projection device.”
The LED light source gives up to 30,000 hours
of use and enables the Q6 to be used at any
angle, including portrait mode, ceiling to floor or
any tile angle.
An industry standard MHL (Mobile High-
Definition Link) cable enables the Q6 to replicate
the display of an MHL-enabled smartphone or
tablet on a big screen, while simultaneously
charging it.
For wireless projection, the Q6 has an
embedded media player that can display
documents, photos, videos and audio files, and
built-inWi-Fi that can deliver uncompressed HD
digital content using the EZCast Pro application.
The Qumi Q6 costs £480 inc. VAT and comes
with a 3-year warranty (five years for education
customers).
