Ethernet
Ethernet can provide a dedicatedhigh
speed, uncontended symmetrical
bandwidth connection for internet or
site-to-site access over either fibre or
copper. If you arewonderingwhat that
means in plain English, a dedicated,
uncontended linkmeans that it is
made available exclusively for one
customer’s use, so the linkwill not
suffer any degradation fromother users
‘contending’ for the same bandwidth.
Symmetrical bandwidthhas the same
upload and download speed and this
can be used either for secure, stable
internet access fromone site or to link
several sites in an Ethernet-basedwide
area network (WAN). Fibre or copper
refers to the cabling, which can either be
fibre optic cable, now available inmany
metropolitan centres, or conventional
copperwires.Thismeans that Ethernet
is available practically anywhere but
greater bandwidth is available over fibre.
Spitfire offers 10Mb to1Gb bandwidth
for fibre and2Mb to10Mb bandwidth
over copper.
Ethernet is excellent for providing
secure and stable internet connections,
whichmakes Ethernet suitable for
organisations that dependon internet
for accessing applications and data in the
‘cloud’.The expansion in software-as-
a-servicemeans this is a growing need.
Ethernet for direct internet access is ideal
for businesses that havemission critical
applications requiring high bandwidth
such as the financial sector, advertising
agencies, the print and graphics industry
and professional service providers like
legal and accountancy practices. Every
Spitfire direct internet circuit includes a
guaranteed Service LevelAgreement.
Ethernet is also ideal for linking
multi-site operations because it uses the
same network technology and a local
area network. Consequently, extending
the network to thewide area over
Ethernet requires no additional routers
or IP addressing – it’s a ‘plug and play’
solution.
Ethernet backup
For business continuity and disaster
recovery purposes, Ethernet installed
over fibre can be provided in three
resilience formats (Standard, Protected
andDiverselyRouted) depending on
requirements.Alternatively, Spitfire can
offer cost effective backup SDSL and
ADSL circuits.
Ethernet special offers!
Spitfire offers flexible bandwidthswith
2Mb, 10Mb, 100Mb and1Gb bearer
circuit options starting from£159 a
