Prontaprint customers in Birmingham are
being offered the option of business cards
incorporating quick response (QRky) barcodes
that when scanned with a smartphone take
the user to an online profle page with contact
details and dynamic content drawn from sites
such as LinkedIn and Twitter.
Graham Hollway, owner of Prontaprint’s
Birmingham City Centre and Edgbaston branches,
said: “It’s such a simple idea, combining the
traditional ritual of exchanging cards when frst
meeting a new acquaintance whilst linking that
directly to the myriad of online profles we have in
this connected digital world.
“Our own staff are using QRky cards and have
found that as well as containing that extra element
of information, presenting a business card printed
with that curious looking QR code is a brilliant
conversation opener. The customers we have
printed them for have been delighted and we are
determined that we won’t print any business cards
without strongly recommending our clients make
them QRky powered.”
Nick Holzherr, founder of Qrky, which supplied
Prontaprint with a new reseller package, said:
“A clear advantage is that whilst the information
printed on a physical card is static, the content
that the QR barcode links to can be changed and
updated. This offers some real opportunities, such
as linking to a current marketing campaign for
instance – the information never need be out
of date.”
QRky’s reseller package for printers and
designers gives access to a white-label portal
where resellers can generate QR codes linked to
a personalised profle page for each individual.
The card holder can keep this updated with new
information and links, changing the content as
often as they like.

Moving with the times, copier company Xerox has
introduced a line of standalone USB duplicators
that can copy digital content from a single USB
storage device (e.g. pen drive or external hard drive)
to as many as 63 other USB drives. The ten products
in the range can operate independently of a PC and,
unlike other USB duplicators, provide asynchronous
data duplication for data content of any size.
The duplicators are manufactured by Vinpower
Digital, which has an exclusive trademark licensing
agreement to develop, market and support Xerox-
branded duplicators outside Asia. Xerox’s duplicator
range also includes models for CD, DVD, Blu-ray and
LightScribe storage.
