Polycom, too, has released a raft of new products designed to remove traditional barriers to the adoption of video communications by enterprises, teleworkers and small and medium-sized businesses.

Highlights include a PC-based telepresence system (Polycom Telepresence m100) for mobile workers; an all-in-one telepresence solution for the executive desktop (the HDX 4500); and a camera tracking system for conference rooms (Polycom EagleEye Director).

Polycom’s Eagle Eye Director, an option for all HDX Room Telepresence systems, is designed to provide more natural teleconferences through a combination of voice triangulation, face-fnding technology and a dual-camera tracking system that focuses in on the speaking party, with smooth transitions between close-ups and room views.

The HDX 4500 is one of a growing number of telepresence solutions for business executives and small groups. The all-in-one, standards-based solution removes the need for peripherals that crowd an executive’s desk space while offering a large LCD display and Polycom UltimateHD technology for a more realistic experience. Aastra

The Aastra BluStar 8000i media phone combines voice, video and real-timing sharing of information in a neat desktop device with a familiar phone interface and clear touch screen controls.

Suitable for person-to-person and multipoint audio and/or video meetings, it features a 13-inch touch screen, true HD 720p video conferencing and superior HD sound quality, delivered via four voice tracking microphones and three speakers.

At the touch of a button, and without the need to book meeting rooms, teams can gather together to share documents and review and discuss project developments.

In addition to PC connectivity, the BluStar 8000i comes with a Bluetooth interface that makes it possible to transfer data from mobile phones and other Bluetooth-enabled devices. It also features built-in business productivity and unifed communications applications that can run at the same time as the live video; voice-activated commands; and biometric fngerprint identifcation.

The BluStar desktop media phone can be deployed on Aastra call managers as a SIP endpoint incorporating all call manager features, as well as two or three-way video conferencing. Alternatively, it can be used in conjunction with a BluStar Application Server as a standalone product or to complement an existing Aastra ViPr video conferencing system.
