The result of these enhancements
is aTypical EnergyConsumption (TEC)
value asmuch as 50% lower than the
previous generationof Sharpmid-range
monoMFPs. Published by Energy Star
(eu-energystar.org),TEC ratings are an
industry standardway ofmeasuring
energy consumed by devices basedon
typical workloads andusage patterns.
User settings
Customers can build-on the inherent
energy-efficiency of Sharp’s newMFPs
by taking advantage of awide choice
of user-selectable and automatic Eco
Settings to further reduce energy, toner
and paper consumption. Settings can
be selected individually or all at once
by pressing an EcoMode buttonon the
MFP display.
n
Automatic duplex printing saves
paper by printing and copying on
both sides of the page;
n
N-up printing cuts paper costs and
filing requirements by printing/
copying up to fourA4 pages on a
single side of paper;
n
Automaticmedia selection
eradicates printing errors by
automatically selecting the right
paper size for any print job;
n
Test prints preventwaste by
producing a test copy before starting
a long print or copy run;
n
Secure print eliminates unnecessary
and repeat printing by requiring
a PIN to be entered before a
document is printed;
n
PC faxing and the routing of
incoming faxes to an email address
save print costs and ensure fax
messages don’t go astray; and
n
Toner Save andDraft Printingmodes
lay down less toner on the page for
longer-lasting consumables.
These capabilities can be extended
with the additionof third party print
management and accounting solutions
that offer FollowMe printing, rules-
based print controls, job accounting
and charge-back functionality. Sharp
UKworkswith all leading suppliers of
such solutions,which can be embedded
on the devices themselves or deployed
on separate servers.
Design improvements
Aswell as reducing carbon emissions
through energy efficiency and support
for green printing practices (Sharp
MFPs are compatiblewith recycled
paper that complieswith European
Standard EN12281), the newmodels
also boast a number of eco-design
improvements.
Certainmachine parts aremade
from plant-derived bio-plastics that
have a lower carbon footprint than
conventional plastic; toner cartridges
are smaller and lighter, use less
packaging and are easier to transport;
each cartridge is designed towork in a
number ofmodels, simplifying
logistics and reducing the need for
resellers and customers tohold so
much stock; the new engine design
has longer-lasting components,which
reduces the number of times an
engineer has to visit a device for routine
maintenance; and a RemoteAccess
Interface enables technicians to view
andoperate theMFP control panel from
a remote PC so that they can diagnose
and resolve technical issueswithout a
site visit, administer devices remotely
and provide help desk support.
Both the act of printing and the
print devices themselves impact the
environment in a number of different
ways, from electricity consumed to the
amount of waste paper and packaging
produced.With its newmid-range
monoMFPs, Sharp has addressed all
the elements that influence printing’s
carbon footprint, providing businesses
of all sizeswith a productive, greener
alternative that canhelp reduce power
bills, print costs and the support
requirements of service and support
providers.
