3 This issue, Michael Coulson, Managing Director and Founder of ManagedPrintCompare.com shares his views on the state of the managed print market. Coulson suggests that the industry is at an impasse and that managed print services has a real challenge on its hands. He argues that not enough is being done, what’s needed in this sector is innovation and that the industry is ripe for a much-needed new wave of thinking (page 18). Apps are clearly the future for Xerox. At the end of last year, it won the Keypoint Intelligence – Buyers Lab Document Imaging Software Line of the Year award for the fifth time, thanks in part to the strength of its app development programme and e-commerce-enabled app marketplace. Over the last few months, it has been expanding the capabilities of its ConnectKey-enabled VersaLink and AltaLink devices, with the launch of new apps in three main categories, device integration, workplace assistance and sector-specific solutions. Xerox argues that apps are good news for the channel and is putting more effort into helping its partners sell software, the company expects the Xerox App Gallery to become a significant revenue generator for many more partners (page 24). On page 28, Rod Tonna-Barthet talks about life at Kyocera post the Annodata acquisition, and how he is looking forward to taking the helm at the UK business. PITR also spoke to Midwich’s Tressa Whitby to find out more about changes within the distributor’s document solutions division (page 33).
