3 Welcome to the first issue of 2019 and a very Happy New Year to all! As we embark on yet another new year (where does the time go?) in keeping with tradition, we feature a round-up of predictions for the year ahead. You can read print industry’s manufacturers’ and analysts’ thoughts beginning on page 40. Within the print and IT channel, diversification as a growth strategy is very much in vogue. I regularly speak to dealer principals and MDs and almost all are in agreement that diversification is very much the name of the game. Just as print vendors are diversifying into IT and vice versa, the world of VoIP and Unified Communications is no longer the exclusive purview of the traditional telecoms channel. It was therefore interesting to speak to Richard Potts, Managing Director of telecoms distributor North Supply, about why the company is looking to the print and IT reseller community to expand its network of channel partners (page 28). Digital transformation presents a huge opportunity for the channel to enjoy business growth. IDC predicts that by the end of 2019, DX spending will reach $1.7 trillion worldwide, a 42 per cent increase from 2017. Should the channel be doing more to capitalise on this opportunity? On page 33, we debate whether the channel should be looking to build dedicated scanners and capture software into existing and new MPS engagements in order to thrive and survive in the DX economy.
