And finally: a quote from the movie Philadelphia: ‘Explain this to me like I’m a six year old.’ There is so much meaningless fluff and corporate speak spouted on every communication channel known to man. In today’s world and sales environment if people don’t understand what you are saying they generally don’t tell you, and more importantly don’t move forward with you or your product! Say it as it is. Simple. If you had had a crystal ball, would you have done anything differently? Sold my house and cars and built 10 padel courts two years ago. 500 to nearly 2,000 and increased turnover to £2.5 million, while reducing staff and process costs. I knew at this point our solutions could help countless other dealers in the managed print space. I moved away from that business to set up and grow Copy Control, before joining forces with CO3 Technologies last year. Importantly, the time I spent at the coalface gave me invaluable insight into how to efficiently operate a business selling print from a service management and billing perspective. What’s the most rewarding part of your current role, and what keeps you motivated day to day? Talking to clients a few months after they have adopted our solutions. We solve real industry-specific problems; we change peoples’ lives and help businesses grow the way they want to. Sounds dramatic … but very true and I have made a lot of friends along the way. The market is changing and keeping up with system integrations, CRM, IT and telecoms etc. keeps us on our toes. Solving problems for our clients and watching them succeed is 100% our motivation. What’s been the most defining moment in your career so far, and how did it shape your approach to leadership? I was 21 years old and working for BT. I attended a residential leadership course, a mix of outdoor activities and workshops. During one of the workshops which focused on how your actions and behaviour affect those around you, one of my colleagues broke down in tears as we had unknowingly given him a nickname that upset him deeply. Your actions and behaviour in the workplace have such a huge impact on the lives and welfare of your colleagues, whether it’s your boss, your peers or your staff, this has stuck with me throughout my career. What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve ever received and how has it influenced your journey? There are three. The first is: All things being equal, people buy from When did you first join the print sector and what attracted you? I fell into it really. 20 years ago, I was between jobs and a good pal of mine who ran a copier business was looking to sell document management software solutions to his established customer base. I had a software sales and development background so I thought I would give it a go! I quickly realised that the business was crippled by laborious service and billing admin tasks, so with the help of my previous lead developer, we wrote a system to deal with it. Within three years we had taken the MIF from Paul Chadwick, Head of Sales UK&I, CO3 Technologies 60 seconds with…. AND FINALLY What would be your dream job? Padel coach somewhere sunny! Money’s not an issue, what’s your perfect car…and where would you like to drive it? A brand new black Range Rover Sport and I’d drive it on the North Coast 500, often called Scotland's Route 66, this 516-mile loop starts and ends in Inverness, tracing the northern Highlands coast. Fine dining and good wine or a curry and a pint? Curry and a pint. How do you like to spend your spare time? Spending time with the family, walking my dog Bruno (pictured left) and chasing a ball of some description around. Favourite app, and why? WhatsApp. It’s the only communication channel my kids use. Favourite holiday destination Cornwall, Padstow Rock area and the New Forest, Lymington Milford on Sea area. Last film you watched? The King’s Speech. Paul Chadwick
