Extended use
The Asus Transformer Prime TF201 tablet with
quad-core Tegra 3 processor combines a thin
(0.33in), high resolution 10.1in display
with a separate keyboard docking unit for
maximum flexibility. On its own, the tablet
has a battery life of up to 12 hours, but this can
be extended to 18 hours with the mobile dock.
Desktop extension
One of many portable displays on show, Viewsonic’s
23in TDi2340 universal display with 10-point
capacitive touch interface allows users to connect
smart phones, tablets or notebooks wirelessly for
an extended desktop mode. Alternatively, it can be
used as a second display.
The thin edge
CES saw the launch of Ultrabooks, a new category of superslim notebook.
A good example is the Dell XPS 13 featuring edge-to-edge glass;
a near frameless display; a full-size backlit keyboard with a large
glass touchpad with integrated buttons and multi-gestural
support; and all-day battery life. The 13.3in Ultrabook weighs
2.99 lbs and is less than a quarter of an inch thick at its thinnest
point. It offers Intel’s latest ease of use features, such as Rapid
Start and Smart Connect, which periodically wakes to update
calendar and email, plus the security features demanded
by IT departments including standard Trusted
Platform Module for BitLocker Data
Encryption.

Gyroscopic mouse
SMK-Link describes the new Gyration Air
Mouse as the ‘Go To’ Mouse for coffee shop
web browsing, airport e-mailing and laptop
presentations. Featuring a dockable USB
receiver and patented gyroscopic gesture
control technology, the Air Mouse Mobile is
ideal for mobile applications.

In the dock
A highlight on AOC’s stand was the AOC
e2343Fi 23in HD monitor. Featuring an
iPhone docking station in its base (and SRS
Premium Sound loudspeakers), it allows
users to view video content and photos
at sizes up to 37 times larger than on an
iPhone screen.
Vapour trial
HzO waterBlock was promoting a new
approach to protecting electronic
devices from water damage. Instead
of water-proofing devices from
the outside, for example with a
case, it waterproofs all the internal
components, so that a smartphone
or MP3 player will continue to work
even when full of water. It does this
by applying a chemical vapour that
blankets electronic circuitry with
a transparent, nano-thin, water-
repellent film.

A glass act
Intel expects more than 75 Ultrabooks
to be launched this year, among them
HP’s elegant HP Envy 14 Spectre.
Coming to the UK in March, this
premium Ultrabook is just 20mm
thick, boasts a full 14-inch screen and
uses scratch-resistant glass on the lid,
display, palmrest and HP ImagePad. The
keyboard is backlit with individual LEDs
for each keycap and automatically lights
up when a user approaches and dims
when they move away.
