Creating a buzz
To mark the first anniversary of its B.Hive
Womens Business Clubs, Regus has released new
research into the needs of female entrepreneurs.
Six out of 10 respondents said that home was
their main place of work, but only 7% usually
hold meetings there, with the majority choosing
to meet in coffee shops and other locations.
Regus set-up B.Hive in conjunction with Lynne
Franks to give female entrepreneurs an attractive
environment in which to catch up on work, hold
meetings and network with peers.
One label for everything
Avery is giving office workers one less thing
to fret over by launching new multi-function
labels that can be used in inkjet printers, laser
printers and copiers for any labelling task.
Previously users had to install different labels
depending on the print technology used.
This development is likely to be welcomed
by office workers, who, according to a OnePoll
survey of 2,000 people, forget an average of five
important facts per day (see list below).
Made from FSC-certified paper, Avery Multi-
Function labels are available in packs of 10, 40 or
100 sheets and come with a JamFree guarantee
and access to free Avery software and templates
that allow you to personalise labels with your own
branding.

Viking wages war on dirt
Office supplies company Viking is warning
small and medium-sized businesses about
the risks of dirty desks, phones, keyboards
and mice after swab tests from hundreds of
customers revealed unacceptable levels of
staphylococcus, bacillus, micrococcus bacteria
and mould.
It warns that dirty office equipment aids the
spread of germs around offices, especially ones
with shared workstations, contributing to the 63
million days small and medium-sized business lose
each year through sickness. Two thirds of these are
lost during the winter cold and flu season at a cost
to SMEs of £3.4 billion.
Research conducted by Opinium found
that 52% of office workers were unaware that
bacteria could be lurking on their keyboards,
phones and screens.
Viking advises people to avoid eating at
their desks; to clean keyboards and desks with
an air duster and anti-bacterial wipes; to wash
hands with soap and warm water after going
to the toilet; and to use anti-bacterial hand gel
throughout the day.

The perfect combination
KI has provided Baring Asset Management with
keyless pedestals and lockers for one of the
departments in its newly refurbished London
headquarters. Electronic and combination locks
are more expensive than a conventional lock and
key but, says KI, are more cost-effective in the
long-term as they eliminate costs associated with
lost keys. Research KI has done with a blue-chip
company indicates that each time a key is lost, it
costs £38 to replace. KI has supplied 900 series
pedestals and 800 series of lateral filing cabinets
fitted with a Sudhaus self-returning four-digit
combination lock. This innovative lock provides
superior levels of security as once it is opened the
numbers automatically revert to 0000 keeping
the code secret.
