When the Lean Agency, a full-service
agency specialising in business-
to-business publicity, consumer
advertising and direct marketing,
re-located from Soho to suburban
Buckinghamshire, its art director Andy
White was able to build his dream
office at the bottom of his garden.
Doubling as an entertainment area
and summerhouse outside office hours,
the traditionally-built wooden shed
features desks, a kitchen unit, bar area
and a fully fitted bathroom, complete
with toilet, bath and shower.
One of its interesting design features
is the use of a recycled glass material
from Granite Transformation as a cladding
on all work surfaces including the desk.
Made from post-consumer recycled
glass blended with a small percentage
of high grade polyester resin, this tough,
hardwearing material is more commonly
found in kitchen makeovers, but it is also
ideal for the office, being resistant to hard
knocks, abrasions, scratches, heat and
water.
Commenting on his choice of material,
AndyWhite said: “We wanted a practical,
hard-wearing surface that is tough, easy
to clean and looks the business. Granite
Transformations offers the perfect
material that enhances the lines of our
furniture, adds a touch of luxury and
creates an eye-catching centrepiece that
looks like it’s carved from solid stone.”
The shed itself is fully insulated
and made with timber from renewable
sources, including external redwood
shiplap boards, roof joists clad with
tongue-and-groove planks, engineered
oak flooring and painted internal wood
panelling. Large bi-fold glazed doors
open onto an adjoining deck area, while
Pilkington K glass filled with argon adds
to the shed’s overall energy efficiency.

Diversified Business
Communications,
organisers of the office*

trade show for the UK’s
office design industry. Due
to run alongside office* at
Olympia on September 12-
13 2012, Office Interiors
will provide a showcase for
office furniture, lighting
and storage, as well as
relocation, design and fit-
out services. Unlike more
elitist workplace shows,
Office Interiors aims to attract a broad spectrum
of visitors ranging from architects and interior
designers to office managers, operations managers,
procurement managers, CEOs, CFOs and FDs.
Design Prima returns
Meanwhile business-to-business interiors
show Design Prima is making a return at the
Business Design Centre, London on
29 February – 1 March 2012.
Running alongside The ARC Lighting Show,
it provides a showcase for commercial interior
and architectural products including furniture,
flooring, textiles, surface materials and
architectural fittings.
The ARC Show Brand Director Andrew
Vaughan commented: “There is a natural
synergy between The ARC Show and
Design PRIMA so we are delighted with
this collaboration. Design PRIMA is a
complementary event for many of ARC’s
exhibitors and the combination will allow us to
offer the industry an unrivalled opportunity to
grow and develop their business offerings and
present their products to a wider audience.”

London tops the table for serviced office costs
If the Premier League
was decided on the
cost of serviced
office space and not
footballing ability,
London teams would
be well ahead of
their Manchester
rivals, according to
new research by
Officebroker.com. It
compared the average
price per workstation
in the postcodes of the
Premier League football
clubs to come up with
an alternative league
table that sees QPR at
the top with £389 and
Wolves at the bottom
with £126.
