beneath the 10in screen and accessed by
sliding the tablet up and back – hence
its name. When you no longer need it, you
can slide the keyboard back under
the screen.
Available in pearl white or metallic
brown, the Eee Pad Slider has scratch-
resistant Corning Gorilla glass; an NVIDIA
Tegra 2 dual core processor; Abobe Flash
for a full web experience; 10 finger multi-

Laptop case thwarts bag snatchers
One of the UK’s oldest safe manufacturers has developed
a solution to that most modern of security risks, laptop
theft, after one of its directors twice had his bag stolen at
the airport.
Phoenix Safe Company’s Venice laptop security case
(£79.99) and overnight trolley case (£149.99) incorporate a
retractable, lockable steel cable that can be looped around a
fixed object, such as a table leg, to prevent it being snatched
by a passer-by while the owner is seated.
According to research conducted by the Ponemon Institute
and Dell (July 2008), 3,000 laptops are stolen from passengers
every week at the eight largest airports in the EMEA region
(Europe, the Middle East and Africa).
The cases are shock-proof and water-resistant and can
accommodate screens up to 17in in size. They include a
cushioned laptop compartment with combination padlock and
document compartments for files, business cards and mobile
phones. The trolley case has an overnight compartment with
ample space for clothing and personal effects.
The Phoenix Safe Company also has a hard case range,
the Madrid Laptop security case (from £85), featuring a high
security cable and lock that allows the case to be fitted to
fixed items in a car, hotel room or office.

Remote access from the
device of your choice
The new HTML5 version of Cortado
Corporate Server gives true desktop
functionality on any web-enabled
device, including iPads, Android and
BlackBerry smartphones and, for
the first time with this release, PCs
and Macs.
Cortado cloud desktop services
connect mobile, web and virtual
desktops with centrally provided IT
resources.
Carsten Mickeleit, CEO of Cortado,
said that Cortado Corporate Server
meets the needs of mobile, home-
based and corporate workers who
want to access corporate data using
the computing device of their choice.
“Cortado’s cloud desktop services
with HTML5 is the only solution
that concentrates on providing the
business class of desktop services in a
flexible and secure cloud environment.
It offers a radical new approach to
remote access that is faster and
less consuming than other solutions
because it uses the local intelligence
and software licenses of the devices,”
he said.
