Following Lexmark’s lead, HP has
incorporated digital camera technology
into its latest colour laser printer/copier/
scanner, the HP LaserJet Pro 200 color
MFP M275.
Last year Lexmark launched its Genesis
MFP, which uses a digital camera to provide
superfast scan speeds of just 3 seconds. Now,
HP has embedded a digital camera in a hinged
arm that rises above the M275’s scanning
platform allowing it to capture high quality
images of documents and three-dimensional
objects.
HP claims the new feature is particularly
useful for people wanting to capture images of 3D
objects for use on websites including auction sites.
Bundled HP Scanning software makes it easy
to remove backgrounds from scans without
the need for photo editing packages; while free
HP print apps can be used to upload scans to
the web for storage and sharing online directly
from the MFP, with no need even to turn on a
computer.

A new service freeing UK consumers from
the restriction of having just one number
per mobile handset could provide a simple
way of managing personal and business
calls on a single device.
Called 2nd Number, it allows UK
consumers to have 2 to 100 separate
numbers (mobile and terrestrial) on a single
handset and SIM, while still retaining the
original handset number, existing phone
provider and the ability to make and receive
calls without using their 2nd Number
account.
Users simply buy additional numbers
from 2nd Number, with setup prices from
£19.99 and monthly line rentals from £5.99.
Call charges apply to calls made or received
using 2nd Number lines but they are
claimed to be lower than those of traditional
providers.
Sales director Ad Jansson commented:
“2nd Number is perfect for companies that
currently expect employees to make business
calls on their personal phones and then
claim expenses, which leads to mountains
of paperwork and misunderstandings. From
now on, the company simply assigns each
employee a 2nd Number line for all business
calls and is charged directly by 2nd Number,
with itemised billing.”

One handset, multiple numbers
J-shaped paper path saves desk space
Canon’s new desktop scanner is a real space-saver thanks to a
J-shaped paper path that removes the need for an extended exit
tray.
With a footprint no larger than an offce telephone even during
operation, the imageFORMULA DR-C125 is ideal where space is in
short supply, such as in a home offce or in customer-facing or
point of sale environments.
When necessary, the 50 images per minute scanner can
convert to a conventional straight paper path for scanning
thick, embossed card or banners up to 3 metres long.
Other useful features include intuitive face-up
scanning; time-saving auto scanning modes based on
document type; programmable short-cuts for specifc
scan tasks; Capture OnTouch software for scanning to
multiple destinations including Microsoft SharePoint
and cloud-based applications such as Evernote; and
a full licence of eCopy PDF Pro Offce for creating, modifying
and converting PDF documents.
The imageFORMULA DR-C125 costs £526.
