01732 759725 34 TR: What should IT managers be doing differently? JK: Consider all options. Humans are creatures of habit, but if we explore all available options, rather than persisting with what we are used to, we can often find better solutions to our problems. TR: How does Uptime Solutions help MSPs? JK: Uptime helps over 250 MSPs with outsourcing assistance. As we are inregion, with UK, USA and New Zealand offices, we are uniquely positioned to be the best channel-only outsourcing partner for the MSP world. TR: What sets Uptime Solutions apart from competitors? JK: Our Services aren’t unique – many companies do similar. What sets us apart is our locations and delivery. We are trying to be a new breed of vendor that truly lives up to the word partner through a combination of true customer-centric locations and an attitude of honesty and transparency. Google us and you will see what I am talking about! TR: What currently is having the greatest impact on your business? JK: MSP tooling. MSPs change tooling so frequently because they get swept up by the next new and shiny tool. I love the passion and desire, but it is too easy to get lost in the new rather than improving the existing! TR: Where do you see the next big opportunity for MSPs? JK: Adding 24*7 coverage to your service desk is something we have discussed for a few years now, and we have seen many MSPs lose customers by not offering such a service. The customer may not need it, but it is still seen as a plus for competitors that do offer it. TR: What’s the best bit of business advice you’ve been given? JK: Treat people how you want to be treated and change your perspective from time to time to look at things through a customer’s eyes. TR: If you had had a crystal ball, would you have done anything differently? JK: I would like to have had a better work/ life balance. Only now have I learnt that work time is more productive when you find the right balance. TR: Describe your most embarrassing moment? JK: Failing my first exam. I saw failure as a huge step backwards, but in reality it motivated me to drive forward with even more vigour. TR: What was your first job? JK: Dispenser at Boots UK. TR: What would your dream job be? JK: It would be easy to write something crazy, but in truth this industry isn’t far off my ideal. It keeps thriving year on year, despite economic uncertainty. The barrier to entry is low and it’s possible for people to make their dreams a reality much faster than in some other verticals. TR: Favourite holiday destination? JK: Marbella. Who doesn’t love the sun? TR: How do you like to spend your spare time? JK: I have just completed my Private Pilot Licence, a passion of mine since I was a little kid. I can now be found flying around the UK or overseas. Technology Reseller (TR): What do you see as the biggest development in IT at the moment? Jason Kemsley (JK): AI has burst onto the scene after being talked about for so many years, with data compliance and storage becoming a huge talking point. Typically, things are developed first and scrutinised afterwards. With AI, we should embrace the change without compromising where our data is held and how it is used. TR: What do you think is having the greatest impact on the IT sector in the UK? JK: There’s a huge shift underway in medium-sized businesses where IT staff are leaving internal roles for better pay and more chances to develop. This is creating an opportunity for almost any MSP to start tendering for business that was previously unattainable, often with the help of people like Uptime. 60 seconds 60 seconds with...
