I think IT managers are constantly figuring out how to do things ‘differently’ because of the increasing demands of digitalisation and business transformation. Being able to identify change and respond to it is key – and of course monitoring can help with that. What’s the best bit of business advice you’ve ever been given? Focus on efforts not outcomes. It’s impossible to get away from targets, but putting emphasis on planning, hard work and persistence will set you up better in the long term. If you had had a crystal ball, would you have done anything differently? Bought more cryptocurrency…. earlier…. and sold it…. quicker! What was your first job? I worked in the back office of a small courier firm. It helped me to understand my responsibilities and the impact my work had on others. I learned what it meant to go above and beyond, and it taught me a lot of the skills that I relied on later. What would your dream job be? A pilot always seemed a pretty glamorous and exciting job. I had my first flying lesson this year and based on that I don’t think it’s a career path I’ll be taking any time soon. Favourite holiday destination? I’ve travelled to many spectacular countries as a solo traveller. But some of my favourite memories are from travelling through Croatia and Italy with my wife. How do you like to spend your spare time? Weekends are usually filled with activities involving my kids, but when I do have some time to myself, I love learning new woodwork skills and like to brew my own beer.
