Previously Channel Account Manager at SolarWinds and Appgate, Durrant has 12 years’ experience in business development and growing channel partnerships for cyber security and monitoring solutions. In his new role, he will spearhead Paessler’s UK channel strategy to help increase its penetration of the enterprise, data centre and industrial markets, strengthen its position as the market leader in network monitoring and develop new opportunities in growing areas such as IoT and environmental monitoring. Paessler introduced PRTG Network Monitor in 1997, since when businesses of all sizes in more than 170 countries have used its solutions to optimise their IT, OT and IoT infrastructures and in doing so save resources and reduce energy consumption. Last month, Paessler announced the expansion of its portfolio into observability through the acquisition of qbilon. What currently is having the greatest impact on your business? We have just launched a product extension that makes monitoring OT environments even easier and enables Paessler PRTG to support the entire operational value stream. The OPC UA Server bridges the gap between IT and OT, which will have a huge impact on the manufacturing industry in the UK. PRTG was already able to communicate with machines, controllers and sensors in manufacturing environments and send alerts to OT teams if there were issues, but the OPC UA Server allows real-time access to monitoring data from network components and the IIoT straight into their supervisory and control systems. Its ability to pump IT intelligence into OT systems means our customers will be able to make better decisions faster. In addition, we’ve implemented a number of initiatives to understand how we can become a better partner for our resellers and distributors, and I’m excited to be part of that process. What do you see as Paessler’s key strengths for MSPs? Our approach is very simple; we try to make it easy for them to access the capabilities an MSP needs, such as customer segmentation, visualisation and alerting, with straightforward tools and easy-to-understand commercials. You might be surprised to learn a single licence gives you access to all you need to monitor IT, OT and IIoT. Our API and extensive network of alliance partnerships ensures we integrate with most of the tech stack used by organisations. Whether it’s signing up to our partner network, trialling our products or deploying our software for the first time – working with Paessler is easy, fair and (we hope) fun! What do you think is going to have the greatest impact on the IT sector this year? It sounds like AI is a hot topic right now with many organisations trying to figure out ways to leverage it. It’s even made it into politics with concerns about the safety of services like ChatGPT, which could put more emphasis on cyber security. I think AI presents us with a big opportunity to help IT departments analyse and identify patterns more proactively. We are working behind the scenes to find out how to leverage machine learning, transparency and observability. 60 seconds David Durrant, Channel Sales Manager, Paessler
