Judges cited her role in helping organisations to understand data protection legislation, as well as ICO investigations into the use of personal data in political campaigning by organisations like Cambridge Analytica, Facebook and Leave EU and its joint investigation with the Australian Information Commissioner into Clearview’s online scraping of biometric identification for a facial recognition app – the first joint investigation with a non- EU state. Ms Denham was appointed UK Information Commissioner in July 2016, having previously been Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia, Canada and Assistant Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
