technologyreseller.co.uk 07 INNOVATIONS Improving accessibility Crowdsourced testing leader Applause has released an accessibility tool to help customers make digital experiences more inclusive. A product of Applause Labs, the company’s ‘innovation engine’, the free download automatically finds and fixes common accessibility issues, such as non-descriptive error alerts, unclear site/page structures and lack of support for navigation by keyboard. Applause says sites will still need to be fully evaluated by accessibility experts but points out that flagging violations of accessibility standards while developers code will save time later on in the development process. https://www.applause.com Flexible and compact OKI’s new A3 colour MFP, the MC883, combines high quality colour printing and smart software solutions that enable flexible, efficient and secure document capture, collaboration and management. Based on OKI’s smart Extendable Platform (sXP), the MFP supports seamless integration with third-party solutions that meet the needs of industry verticals, such as construction, healthcare and professional services. The devices are also ideal for producing marketing material in-house, thanks to their 1200 x 1200 dpi colour output and flexible paper-handling, from A6 to 1.3m banners and weights of up to 256gsm. www.oki.com/eu Android tablet Following the recent launch of its Window- based Mesa 3 rugged tablet, Juniper Systems Limited is bringing out an Android version with Google Mobile Services. The IP68-rated device features an octa-core processor from Qualcomm, providing the speed and flexibility needed to run processor-intensive applications in the field; 6GB of RAM; the option of extra storage via a microSD card; and a hot-swappable battery for all-day working. https://junipersys.com Extra protection Bedford-based housing association bpha is taking its use of lone worker protection systems to the next level by trialling body- worn cameras. Four of its officers will trial SoloProtect ID Pro badges integrated with a camera that starts recording as soon as a user activates a ‘Red Alert’. Video is streamed directly to a SoloProtect Alarm Receiving Centre where it is managed in a GDPR-compliant fashion. If successful, the technology will be rolled out to staff in areas where concerns or incidents have been recorded. Bpha has 400 employees and manages 19,000 homes across the Oxford to Cambridge arc. There’s the hub Konica Minolta has expanded its bizhub i-Series with three new colour A3 MFPs. Featuring print speeds of 45, 55 and 65 pages per minute, the bizhub C450i, C550i and C650i come with powerful scanning features including a 280ipm scan speed and a 300-sheet dual-scan document feeder. Flip and fold Featuring Samsung’s first foldable glass display, the Galaxy Z Flip marries a 6.7in screen with a compact design small enough to fit into a clutch bag or back pocket. Samsung says that having a foldable display and Hideaway Hinge that opens at multiple angles (like a laptop) makes the phone less bulky and supports new ways of capturing content, including hands-free selfies and video chats. Other features include a custom UX that maximises the benefits of a foldable screen (e.g. split-screen functionality for multi- tasking) and a cover display that shows notifications of new messages, battery life and time and date. www.samsung.com/uk Jumping barriers Huawei is bringing smartphones and computers closer together with a new feature that enables a Huawei MateBook D Series consumer laptop and Huawei smartphone to share a single display so that users can view content saved on a smartphone on their laptop. Files can be transferred by dragging them from one user interface to the other. Peripherals connected to the laptop can also be used to navigate the smartphone, giving laptop users seamless access to mobile apps without switching device. The screen collaboration feature builds on HUAWEI OneHop, which enables users to transfer documents, images and videos between Android smartphones and Windows PCs. http://consumer.huawei.com Modular UPS for small spaces The revamped Riello UPS Multi Power range of modular uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) extends the benefits of modular UPS (performance, scalability, efficiency) to smaller applications with limited space.
