Fifth consecutive quarter
of printer sales growth
Bulletin
Small office/home office
users who prefer laser to
inkjet are being targeted by
Ricoh with a new series of
wireless colour laser printers
that combine value for money
with the flexibility of WiFi
connectivity and wireless
printing via the free Ricoh
Print & Scan app.
The Ricoh C250DN printer
and SP C250SF MFP come with
wired and wireless network
connectivity and automatic
double-sided printing as
standard and deliver high
quality 2400 x 600dpi output at
speeds of up to 20 pages per
minute for colour and B/W.
Gerard de Pender, senior
product manager at Ricoh
Europe, said: “These desktop
A4 devices provide everything
home workers and small
businesses or workgroups
could possibly want from a
colour laser device, plus a few
surprises not normally seen at
this price level. We expect the
ability to print wirelessly from a
tablet or smartphone to prove
particularly popular.”
For cost-conscious buyers,
the Energy Star 2.0-certified
devices have automatic two-
sided printing and an Eco
colour mode that extends the
life of colour toner cartridges.
A power-saving sleep mode
contributes to a TEC rating of
just 1.6 kWh.
HP addresses printer security concerns
with new JetAdvantage brand
Reports in
The Register
that researchers at Context Information
Security have been able to hack into a Canon Pixma printer and
load a copy of the Doom computer game has once again raised
the question of printer security.
To help meet the security needs of its customers, HP has
announced a range of printer security solutions marketed under its
new JetAdvantage brand. These include:
n
HP Imaging and Printing Security Center (IPSC) 2.1, which makes
it easier to secure and monitor HP printing fleets by streamlining
the time-consuming task of creating IT security policies for secure
device communications;
n
HP Print Security Advisory Services, offering print environment
analysis, security policy deployment and advice on securing a
printing infrastructure;
n
HP ArcSight, which now provides security monitoring for the full
HP portfolio of FutureSmart printers and MFPs;
n
HP Secure Content Management and Monitoring, which extends
HP Autonomy Information Governance tools to information flowing
through an HP MFP; and
n
HP JetAdvantage Pull Print, a cloud-based pull printing solution
that protects against unauthorised access to confidential print jobs.
HP expands business inkjet range
HP has expanded its HP
Officejet Pro range of
business inkjets with two
new models that can be
purchased with an HP Instant
Ink contract, combining
low cost printing with the
convenience of automatic
supplies replenishment.
Available from October and
November respectively, the
Energy Star-accredited HP
Officejet Pro 6830 e-All-in-One
(£129.99) and HP Officejet Pro
6230 ePrinter (£69.99) produce
laser-like quality prints for up
to 50% less than competitive
colour laser printers.
The new models offer
faster print speeds and higher
duty cycles, plus automatic
two-sided borderless printing
and a gesture-enabled colour
touchscreen for ease of use.
Users can print from
smartphones, tablets, Internet-
connected notebooks and
PCs using HP wireless direct,
HP ePrint, AirPrint, Android
printing, Samsung inOS printing
and Google Cloud Print.
Both models are eligible for
HP Instant Ink, which enables
customers to save up to 70%
on the cost of Original HP Ink
and enjoy automatic deliveries
of replacement cartridges as
and when they are needed.
Customers can choose one
of three price plans, starting at
£1.99 a month. This gives them
a set number of pages and as
many consumables as they
need, delivered automatically
on a just-in-time basis.
The Western European printer and multifunction (MFP)
markets continued to grow strongly in the second quarter of
the year, achieving an increase in year-on-year sales for the
fifth quarter in a row.
According to the
Worldwide Quarterly Hardcopy Peripherals
Tracker
from International Data Corporation (IDC), total unit
shipments reached 4.92 million, 5% higher than the same period
last year, with growth of 22.9% in the UK.
Sales growth was driven by greater demand for colour devices,
especially inkjets, including both business inkjets (up 12.9%) and
consumer models (up 8.2%). Mono sales were down in all categories.
The total MFP market (inkjet and laser) increased by 7.8% and
now accounts for 78% of all shipments. Single function printer
shipments fell by -3.6%, despite rising
sales of colour models
(mono and inkjet).
Brother is aiming
to capitalise on
strong growth in
the business inkjet
market with the launch of
a new range of A3 business inkjet printers. Building on the J4000
range introduced in 2012, the J5000 series enables A3 printing
from an A4 footprint machine and features super high yield toners
for Brother’s lowest ever cost per page.
In addition to JetAdvantage security
solutions, HP has launched a new
workgroup MFP, the HP LaserJet
Enterprise MFP M630, that comes
‘out of the box’ with the HP Trusted
Platform Module accessory and 200
embedded security features.
