Architectural students at
University College London (UCL)
can look forward to faster large
format print-outs and less queuing
following the installation of a
PageWide XL 5000 Multifunction
Printer in The Bartlett School of
Architecture, UCL’s global faculty
of the built environment.
With more than 200,000 nozzles
on a stationary print bar spanning
the entire width of a page, the
PageWide XL 5000 offers mono
and colour printing from the same
device at super-fast speeds of up
to 14 D/A1-size prints per minute.
The Bartlett School of
Architecture’s 800 students and
220 staff have access to the
printer from 08:30 to 22:30, seven
days a week.
Yusah Hamuth, Faculty Head
of IT at University College London,
said: “Before we had the high-
speed printer, students had to wait
in front of the printer before they
could collect their CAD projects.
During the hand-in period in May/
June, when the print volume
typically increases significantly,
we could observe queues in front
of the printers getting longer and
longer. The need for a high-speed
printer was evident.”
He adds that with two media
drawers for up to four media
rolls and two sets of CMYK
ink cartridges offering reliable,
uninterrupted printing, IT staff do
not have to be in attendance for
students to use the device.
“The dual set of ink cartridges
is very convenient. If one cartridge
runs out it automatically swaps to
the other one,” he said.
