Ticketless transport
payment system
launched by Xerox
Xerox has launched a
secure, smartphone-based,
ticketless public transport
payment system, following
a successful nine-month
trial in Valence in south-
east France.
The Xerox Seamless
Transportation Solution
is based on Near Field
Communication (NFC) tags
that transport operators
install on their network and
which users of NFC-enabled
smartphones running the
Xerox Seamless app tap at
the start and end of their
journey.
When tapped, the NFC
tag creates an encrypted
transaction and relays it to
the smartphone. Billing is
processed automatically
at the end of the month,
based on the number of
trips completed with various
transport providers.
In exchange for a fee for
services provided, Xerox
provides transport operators
with a complete service
including the supply of
the app and NFC tags; the
integration of data required
to process fares; customer
service; and billing and
reconciliation of fares/
services processed.
In addition, transport
users can integrate the
Xerox Seamless app
with the Xerox Mobility
Companion for journey
planning.
Mobile phones just
the ticket for rail
passengers in East
Anglia
Abellio Greater Anglia has
moved a step closer to
eliminating paper tickets
following a £3m investment
in barcode readers at ticket
gates.
Passengers travelling
on Abellio Greater Anglia’s
network are now able to
buy and receive most of the
train operator’s tickets via
the Abellio Greater Anglia
or Trainline apps. Once the
tickets have been purchased,
passengers simply need to
scan the on-screen barcode
at readers newly installed at
ticket barriers.
Abellio Greater Anglia
says the investment will
help to reduce the use of
paper tickets; cut queues at
ticket machines and ticket
gates; and provide increased
flexibility for passengers.

Improved recognition in new version of AccuRead Automate
Lexmark has announced an enhanced version of AccuRead
Automate for Multifunction Printers, which recognises and
classifies documents as they are scanned, extracting key
information for use in other processes.
In this way, AccuRead Automate enables the automatic indexing
of scanned files and the routing of captured data to predefined
destinations for use in downstream business applications.
For the first time, Version 2.0 includes the ability automatically
to recognise multi-page documents, such as two-, three- or four-
page invoices, which reduces manual pre-sorting requirements.
Also new is the ability to recognise a document based on its
text, not just its layout, which enables the software to classify
documents that don’t fully match ‘learned’ categories and
significantly reduces error rates.
Danny Molhoek, Lexmark’s general manager for North West
Europe, said: “Businesses in the UK struggle with capturing printed
information and retrieving it easily when needed. Often manual
steps are required before and after the scanning process owing
to the wide variety of document types available. Other barriers
to data extraction from printed documents include insufficient
employee training and limited network bandwidth in remote
locations. This update includes significant improvements in speed
and performance when classifying documents and extracting the
relevant information.”
AccuRead Automate 2.0 for Multifunction Printers is available for
the Lexmark CX7 and CX8 Series of colour devices.
