The exodus of businesses to the Cloud and the changes in licencing from perpetual to subscription. This has driven us to expand our portfolio which has opened additional conversations with our partners about new offerings and different ways for them to provide the appropriate solution for their customers. Where do you see the next big opportunity? Everywhere… with organisations from all sectors looking to the Cloud, ORdigiNAL’s ever expanding portfolio of Cloud hosted and Cloud enabled products is suited to opportunities both big and small. What would make your day job easier? In an ideal world I would receive a reply to all emails, even if it’s a ‘No’… I understand we’re all busy and email traffic is forever increasing, but a quick reply to say, “not interested”, “not right now”, “contact me next month” or “let’s have a meeting” would just make life so much easier. What’s the best bit of business advice you’ve been given? Maybe not considered business advice but you can’t go wrong if you follow the owl: The wise old owl lives in an oak, The more he saw, the less he spoke, The less he spoke, the more he heard, We should all be like that wise old bird. So, I guess my advice is, listen to your customer. If you had had a crystal ball, would you have done anything differently? Mortgaged myself to the hilt and bought houses in the mid 90’s. Describe your most embarrassing moment. Crying like a baby at the rugby club when the British & Irish Lions won the series in South Africa in 1997. Such a momentous moment for Northern Hemisphere rugby and I couldn’t stop the tears. What was your first job? I worked for a dealer in Toronto selling Toshiba Photocopiers, Sharp fax machines and Olivetti word processors. It was a proper introduction into the world of sales, and every day I had to bring back a minimum of 25 business cards to the office from cold calls to prove I had made them. What would be your dream job? A BA pilot flying Concorde trans-Atlantic to New York. I often saw and heard it fly over my house many years ago and it always made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. It was a marvellous feat of engineering and to fly on the edge of space must be an unbelievable feeling. Fine dining and good wine, or curry and a pint? It would have to be curry and a pint with good mates. Favourite holiday destination? There is nothing like the soft golden sand and crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean. The laidback relaxed atmosphere and the occasional rum punch also adds to its appeal. How do you like to spend your spare time? Up until a recent hospitalisation with an injury to my leg I really enjoyed mountain biking around the countryside and a few rounds of golf. Until I’m back to full fitness it will be watching my boys play rugby and football at the weekend and cheering them on. Money’s not an issue, what’s your perfect car… and where would you like to drive it? An Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante driving through the mountains of Northeast Sardinia.
