Print.IT Reseller - issue 61

01732 759725 50 AND FINALLY Tressa Whitby , General Manager Print, Document Solutions Team, Midwich 60 seconds with… What’s currently having the greatest impact on your business? I would say Brexit, as we simply do not know how it will affect our business and stakeholders. Having said that, we always deal with economic turbulence well at Midwich so I’m confident Brexit won’t knock us too far off our tracks, if at all! Where do you see the next big opportunity? Security is certainly an area that manufacturers are pushing and corporates are asking for, but I’d say the inkjet vs laser debate is an area we’re going to see a lot more of. Inkjet technology was introduced in to the B2B market a few years ago and wasn’t readily accepted as a viable alternative, but with faster throughout, incredibly high print speeds and better print quality generally combined with a strong CSR message, inkjet is ready to give laser a slap in the face! What would make your day job easier? Distributions role is to support both our vendor and reseller partners and therefore a lot of plates are spinning all at once. I love the challenge and our industry is fast-paced but If I could change one thing, I would ban emails… maybe it’s because I love chatting to people! What’s the best bit of business advice you’ve been given? Don’t be afraid of being called a ‘sales person’, after all, a sales person is simply someone that is transferring enthusiasm from one person to another; the simplest and easiest definition I’ve ever come across! Be passionate, be enthusiastic, care about what you do and know why you’re doing it. And a Managing Director of a VAR said to me once: “Business is easy, just see how your competitors are doing it, and do it better!” If you had had a crystal ball, would you have done anything differently? Absolutely nothing – again, another piece of wisdom I was given; no one has ever made a bad decision, you just made a decision based on what you knew at the time. If you’re presented new information, you might want to amend your decision. Don’t look back, look forward! Describe your most embarrassing moment. Whilst on a company event in Scotland with approximately 30 other colleagues at the departure gate, I looked up from a chat with a stranger (it’s fair to say I like a chat) to find not only had the departure lounge gone very quiet, but What was your first job? Straight from school I went to work for an IT reseller and service company managing their maintenance service calls and ticketing. What would be your dream job? Being the person that goes around interviewing home owners that send their photographs into Interior House magazines – getting to see how various people live and how they choose the things in their homes and the story behind their choices. Fine dining and good wine, or curry and a pint? Both! Different things for different occasions but can’t beat a good curry! How do you like to spend your spare time? I’m a single parent to two energetic and lively children so they take a good chunk of my time with different clubs, football, scouts, swimming and we’ve just started canoeing! Favourite holiday destination? Thailand all the way! Absolutely loved the culture, the people and especially the food! Money’s not an issue, what’s your perfect car … and where would you like to drive it? I’m a big fan of larger SUV type cars rather than sports cars and I do like the Land Rover Discovery, so to drive that through the Stelvio Pass, in the Eastern Alps would be something to remember! also our plane was 45 degrees heading due south and taking off without me!! Slightly embarrassing that I’d been sat there for 45 minutes with my colleagues and hadn’t even noticed they’d gone… 12 hours later I got home!... slightly embarrassing! I have a few others but not for the magazine!
