01732 759725 50 AND FINALLY Dean Chisholm, Deputy Managing Director Group Support, Tecserv 60 seconds with… What’s currently having the greatest impact on your business? Our organisation is going through a decentralisation period as we strive to cover a greater area under our fixed pricing system allowing us to pass on the associated cost savings to our clients by reducing mileage charges. Just to give you an idea of how this has impacted our organisation, our previous standard coverage area was a 60 mile radius from our depot in the south east, we now cover more than triple this area under the same fixed prices! Where do you see the next big opportunity? We recognised that we now live in an age where clients want to be able to access key information with regards to their bookings and devices being stored with us in real-time, so we started exploring ways to improve our customers’ experience as well as the level of service being offered. Over the past three years, we have invested heavily in developing a custom-built management system and client portal known as System Dynamo which enables our clients to book and track work online 24 hours a day, seven days a week from anywhere in the world. What would make your day job easier? More of our clients taking advantage of our free site survey service to ensure there are no unexpected issues come the day of the job! What’s the best bit of business advice you’ve been given? Continuous improvement is the key to success, nobody moves forward standing still. If you had had a crystal ball, would you have done anything differently? In our early years we relied heavily on word of mouth to secure new business as we were such a niche organisation. However, in hindsight, we should have actively advertised the range of services and products that we provide, in not doing so a lot of organisations assume we just delivered devices when we can offer a lot more. Describe your most embarrassing moment. When I first started working in the office, I think I was about 20 and I remember being asked to collect one of our vehicles from the local garage as it was in for a service, however, on my return to the office I managed to scrape the vehicle down the side of a parked car literally 100 metres from our yard. To say my MD was not best pleased was an understatement and the ribbing I got from colleagues lasted months. What was your first job? I started working for Tecserv as an installation technician straight after completing my A levels. Since then I have worked my way through each role in the organisation which has given me a great insight and understanding into how the company operates, enabling me to get to where I am today. What would be your dream job? Operating a water sports company in Barbados. Fine dining and good wine, or curry and a pint? Curry and pint but you can’t beat fine dining for a special occasion! Money’s not an issue, what’s your perfect car… and where would you like to drive it? Ford GT40 driving through the mountain roads in Switzerland during the summer. How do you like to spend your spare time? Spending time with my family, socialising with friends. I enjoy a round of golf and like to watch Arsenal play when I can. Favourite holiday destination. Canary Islands, but I really enjoyed my holiday at a game reserve in South Africa and would recommend this to anyone. Photo by Harshil Gudka on Unsplash
