3 A new Centrify survey (page 18) reveals senior managers are finding it harder to understand the next-generation workforce, which is making it difficult to assess and guide attitudes to security and privacy at the office. By 2025 it is estimated that millennials will make up as much as 75 per cent of the workforce. There is no getting away from the fact that this generation will be critical for filling the employment gap, and that businesses looking to secure the best talent need to bridge the age gap – to understand who millennials are and what motivates them. M-Files’ TimWaterton alludes to this on page 26, he says that at a senior level the one topic that is playing out is the impact of the generation change and the advent of digital natives in the workplace. With the traditional print industry predicted to decline, Sharp’s Jason Cort says both OEMs and channel firms need to undergo enormous changes in order to become digitally focused and succeed in this disruptive landscape. Sharp has acquired Toshiba’s computer business, a move it says will strengthen its capabilities in the growing areas of AI and IoT (page 31) and on page 22, Cort explains more about how the company is developing new areas of innovation whilst also protecting its core business.
