Print IT Reseller - issue 140

01732 759725 30 management solution? Some of the print management solutions - although promoted as offering secure cloud print - are actually very powerful scan solutions that enable scanning directly into SharePoint and OneDrive with smart features - such as OCR for text searchable PDFs, blank page removal and batch scanning - combined with the ability to rename documents automatically. With those solutions available, I believe that tapping into end-users’ existing infrastructure is a much better approach than restructure. In short; users just want to print securely from laptops or MacBooks and scan to email or SharePoint for OneDrive… so why complicate it for them? PITR: Is cloud now the platform of choice for print? If not, what’s holding companies back? EB: 2025 was an eye-opening year for me. Because, like many people within the managed print sector, I followed the common trend of thinking cloud is the future, and seeing everyone rush to make the switch. However, after attending many events across Europe this year to learn about trends outside of the UK, it was interesting to observe how the uptake of cloud differs from one country to another; some have made more headway than others, and it seems that the UK is leading the pack when it comes to cloud migration. PITR: Are you having many conversations with respect to print and ARM64 Windows computers? EB: Interestingly, we’re not yet having any specific discussions around ARM devices and I’m not seeing a rapid uptake, especially within SMBs. It seems that many are switching back from terminal services to traditional network environments with laptops for hybrid enablement, only this time they’re choosing on-premise or cloud print services. www.masiello.co.uk goals. Beyond print, we’re also seeing a real uptake in customers that want to scan to cloud locations with SharePoint, OneDrive for Business. Scanning is really taking off as customers look to digitise their document workflows. PITR: How do you support end-users when they encounter a problem? EB: Most of the resellers we engage with provide their own first line support. If they can’t fix a problem, they will then escalate it to us. For every account we work on, we link them with PaperCut Multiverse, which means that as soon as we have the ticket registered, we can dial straight into the issue. If they’re using PaperCut MF or Hive, we can have a look, see what’s going on and check the logs. This immediate visibility enables us to have a first-time fix rate of under an hour. Or, if it’s something external, we can feed that back to the reseller in real-time. PITR: What are the top three considerations from end-users with respect to print hardware and software? EB: I’ve been working in managed print since 1997 and saw the introduction of very basic network capabilities to transform traditional copiers into multifunctional devices. And to be honest, not a great deal has actually changed in my opinion. The term ’keep it simple’ is used fashionably but not actually applied by the people who quote it, but it is something I have built my career on. Many managed print providers believe they need to drive document management and workflow solutions as the next step after secure print. However, I think this is not the case. If we spend time with end-users, observe how they work and how we can make things simpler then, more often than not, a print management solution is the perfect all-in-one. Many end-users already pay for Microsoft SharePoint and OneDrive for Business within their 365 subscription, so why try to sell them a document PrintIT Reseller (PITR): What customers do you serve? Errol Basaran (EB): Our customer base covers legal, first year education into secondary education and anything from one device up to 45. Our average implementation is around 100 users across five devices. We’ve worked with a few customers with multiple sites and international ones as well in London, Manchester, Switzerland and as far as New York. PITR: What are you seeing as businesses’ print priorities? EB: Most people just want secure print. We’ve worked with some clients that are trying to tick an ISO accreditation and to achieve that accreditation, there has to be an element of security around print, so people can’t see what’s being printed off if they’re sensitive HR or finance documents. Some want secure print because of that, while others want it to help reduce paper waste and their carbon footprint in line with their sustainability Errol Basaran serves as Lead Solutions Consultant at Masiello Ltd, an independent professional services and IT solutions provider which he founded three years ago.
