10 MANAGED.IT 01732 759725 PRINTERS This is an entry level compact mono MFP (print, copy, scan and fax) with top specification and an easy set up process, which is punching above its weight for the price of under £120. As a personal printer or even in a small workgroup this is a versatile entry level product which carries features normally only available with higher priced MFPs. It has a good first print output speed of 8 seconds and duplex printing. This MB2236adw is Windows and Mac compatible and can be connected via network, USB or Wi-Fi. Size and speed This printer has a small footprint (41.5x36cm) for use on any desk. Unpacking is easy – straight out of the box you can be up and running within 10 minutes. The toner is a click and slide solution which makes toner loading simple. The starter toner cartridge which comes in the box will print around 700 pages. We recommend buying a larger cartridge as well and the cheapest will print around 1200 pages at 5% coverage. To our surprise it has duplex printing as standard which is a nice touch on this level of machine. The print speed is a more than capable 34ppm (17ppm duplex) and the quality of output is good at 600x600 dpi. We printed out some charts and they looked very smart. It is capable of producing mid- volume print runs and copies. Paper handling The unit has a 250 sheet paper tray, a single sheet multipurpose feeder and 50 sheet ADF. For scanning there’s a duplex ADF. The processor is an impressive 1GHz with 512mb RAM which enables fast printing and scanning of documents. The output tray can hold up to 150 A4 Sheets of everyday office paper which is perfect for when you are printing a larger job. Connectivity We tested it on our network via a Cat 5 connection and found it very easy to set up on the 5 machines in the office, giving everyone direct access to the MFPs features. In addition to its fixed networking ability we found it had Wi-Fi as well as individual USB connectivity – all useful to ensure it is suitable for use in almost all environments. The MB2236adw comes with a good selection of drivers – including Windows versions, macOS, AirPrint and AirScan – making this device versatile for printing from mobile devices and tablets as well as desktops. One of the only negatives we could find is no standard USB port to enable scanning to a USB Memory Stick. However, the software included does enable you to connect the MFP’s functionalities, copy, scan and print, via a network or USB to an individual PC or Mac. Consumables A nice plus point to this product is that there is a toner which suits your needs. This ultimately means you can reduce your running costs and confidently plan your consumables stock levels – the toners come in 3 sizes: 1,200, 3,000 and 6,000 page volumes. The quoted duty cycle is 30K prints which makes this well manufactured device heavier duty than some other products in this sector. Overall this product is a highly capable device which would be a good addition to any home, SME or departmental environment.
