Brighter bolder Paper

At last month’s Paperwork exhibition in Frankfurt Germany (reviewed in the next issue of Pen To Paper magazine), seven new printer and paper manufacturers announced their support for the ColorLok paper standard jointly developed by HP and International Paper. In alphabetical order, they are April, Domtar, Kodak, Mondi, M-real and Suzano.
ColorLok was developed by HP and International Paper to improve the quality of colour prints on uncoated paper. Benefits include more vibrant images, bolder blacks, faster dry times and improved reliability.
The standard applies to both laser and inkjet technology, but is particularly relevant to ink-based printing process, as a key component are paper additives that keep colorants in pigment ink near the surface for noticeably brighter prints.
The ColorLok standard is not a specific technology, but a series of standards relating to print quality, dry times and printer performance. Paper manufacturers can meet the standard using whatever technology they see fit.
Papers available in the UK that already carry the ColorLok logo include HP Everyday papers (inkjet and multipurpose) and International Paper’s Duo and Rey brands.
