Filters reduce risk of inhaling particle emissions

Readers concerned about the potentially harmful effects of inhaling particle emissions from laser printers (see Business Info, Issue 85, page 25) will be pleased to know that Katun Corporation is now selling filter systems from Dexwet Technology (www.dexwet.com) that are designed to minimise office workers’ exposure to fine dust emissions. The filters, which are compatible with 80% of existing printers, are claimed to be effective on ultrafine particles of less than 1 micrometer that can penetrate deep into the lungs.

Katun claims that many printers are supplied without filters, but even those that do have them built-in are unable to provide the same level of protection as Katun’s filters.

Katun is providing the filters singly or in a bundle with the Katun Print Software Solution (PSS), which includes an alert to advise administrators when the filters need to be replaced. Developed by Docuform, PSS is a set of software tools that enable organisations to reduce print costs by automatically routing print jobs to the most cost-effective device on a network. Katun’s research indicates that 20 to 30% of the overall print volume of desktop printers can be routed to inexpensive network printers or MFPs, resulting in cost savings of 15 to 20%.
