Pilot launches refillable
versions of the V5 and V7
Meeting the needs of green stationery
buyers, Pilot has added refillable versions of
its classic V5 and V7 Hi-Tecpoint pens to the
BegreeN range.
The V5 & V7 Hi-Tecpoint Cartridge System
has all the features of the original V5 & V7
pens, including a Hi-Tecpoint nib for precision
writing, an ink viewing window and an ink
regulator system that ensures smooth writing
to the last drop.
However, unlike the originals, it can be
refilled with a cartridge made from 71%
recycled plastic.
Alex Sinclair, marketing manager for Pilot,
said: “We are really excited about being able
to offer such a great product to the market. As
with the rest of the BegreeN range, the V5/7
Hi-Tecpoint Cartridge System offers the same
fabulous writing experience that consumers
expect from standard Pilot Pens, but is also
environmentally responsible. The fact that the
product is refillable means that consumers and
businesses can save money by refilling their
pens instead of buying fresh pens, too!”
To mark the launch of the refillable pens and
to get customers used to the idea of refilling,
Pilot will be offering special deals on cartridges
throughout the year.
Although many popular pens can be re-used,
the UK market for refills is very small – much
smaller than Germany, for example – and the
overwhelming tendency is still to throw away
pens once they have been used.
According to Pentel marketing manager
Wendy Vickery, there are many reasons why UK
consumers don't buy more refills, ranging from
lack of awareness that a pen can be refilled to
difficulties in finding stockists.
She said: “Until continued, sustained
demand is generated and proven, retailers will
understandably be reluctant to stock more of
them. Let’s not forget that space is limited in-
store and within catalogues and it would require
a significant volume of sales to justify replacing
a complete writing instrument with a refill.”
Even so, Vickery says that sales of Pentel
refills are growing steadily, with a 40% year-on-
year increase driven in no small part by demand
for EnerGel refills.
Pentel's Recycology range of writing
instruments includes many refillable options
including Energel pens. Refills are available from
Pentel's online store as well as local stockists.

Regus Business Hubs now in Staples stores
Flexible workspace provider Regus is to open
a series of Regus Business Hubs in Staples
stores across the UK, enabling mobile and
home workers to hold meetings and catch
up with admin at the same time as buying
envelopes or printer paper.
The Hubs will provide drop-in facilities and
meeting space and are open to Regus Business
World card holders and anyone else who buys
a pass in-store or from regusdirect.co.uk. Passes
start at £5 per day and can be used at all 160
Regus centres in the UK.
Regus Business Hubs will initially be available
in Staples stores in Swindon, Reading, Sheffield
and Birmingham.
Regus UK managing director Steve Purdy
said: “Two fifths of Britain’s workers now work
half the week or more at locations other than
their employer’s main office. Mobiles, tablets
and cloud technology make this possible, but
workers still need access to office-type facilities
– even if it’s just for ten minutes to print, email,
think or meet a contact. Car parks, coffee shops
and home don’t always do the job. That’s why
Regus has chosen to collaborate with Staples
UK, the perfect working environment for the
mobile worker, offering access to an A-Z of office
supplies and services under one roof.”
The deal with Staples UK follows a
partnership with Extra Motorway Service Area
Group to provide Regus business lounges at
motorway service stations in the South East.
