Commercial backs Toilet Twinning campaign Business services specialist Commercial is supporting a water and sanitation programme run by Tearfund by twinning each of the 23 toilets in its Cheltenham and London premises with a toilet in Malawi. Tearfund established the Toilet Twinning initiative to provide clean water, basic sanitation and hygiene education in developing countries. According to Toilet Twinning CEO Lorraine Kingsley, even a simple pit latrine can transform the health and economic prospects of its users. She said: “When people are restored to full health, their capacity to work and to earn increases and they can start to take their first big steps out of poverty. And because we train communities to build their own toilets, toilets can restore dignity and confidence too.” Toilet twinning costs just £60 per toilet. Find out more at www.toilettwinning.org . Commercial will be hosting its tenth CSR Day on June 28, 2018. www.csrday.co.uk www.commercial.co.uk Paper best for packaging A snap poll of 500 UK adults by paper advocacy organisation Two Sides identifies paper & cardboard as the most popular packaging material in part due to its use of recycled material. Paper & cardboard was seen as better for the environment, easier to recycle, easier to open and close, easier to store, lighter weight, more practical and safer to use than other materials, including plastic, glass and metal.  Survey findings show that: n 78% like paper & cardboard packaging because it is biodegradable; n 73% believe paper & cardboard packaging makes good use of recycled materials; and n 64% like paper & cardboard packaging because it is made from renewable wood fibre. The survey highlights widespread concern about packaging: 85% believe it is a significant source of litter; 84% believe over-packaging is a problem; and 71% believe packaging is bad for the environment. The European Paper Recycling Council (EPRC) recently revealed that the paper recycling rate in Europe has now reached 72.5%. www.twosides.info
