INTERVIEW 01732 759725 magazine 23 a range of AI techniques, such as natural language processing, computer vision and machine learning, to enable more intuitive and efficient interactions between humans and machines. In addition to enhancing productivity and efficiency, collaborative AI has the potential to unlock new opportunities for innovation and creativity. By leveraging the unique strengths of both humans and machines, Copilot roll-out gathers pace collaborative AI systems can enable us to explore new frontiers in fields like healthcare, education and scientific research. However, as with any rapidly advancing technology, there are potential risks and ethical considerations that must be carefully considered and addressed. As we move forward with the development of collaborative AI, it will be essential to ensure that these systems are designed and used in a responsible and ethical manner, with a focus on promoting the common good and safeguarding human rights and values. The key thing to remember for now is that AI is not a replacement for human intelligence. It is there as an assistant to help us achieve tasks more efficiently, while reducing the number of human errors that naturally occur. www.vantage365.co.uk Microsoft to extend Microsoft 365 Copilot to enterprise customers from November 1 In March, Microsoft whetted people’s appetites for its Copilot ‘everyday AI companion’ by demonstrating how someone could use it to boost productivity and make better use of features within Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and other Microsoft apps. Imagine the time you could save by asking your computer – in normal English – to summarise email threads in Outlook; compose messages in your own writing style; edit and rewrite paragraphs; add a table to a document; find and highlight key data within a spreadsheet; add a formula column in Excel; and do much, much more. Now, with the integration of Copilot into many more apps, Microsoft is putting in place the building blocks to create what it hopes will become a consistent Copilot user experience across Windows 11, Microsoft 365, Bing and Edge, available via an app or with the right click of a mouse. As Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft Corporate Vice President & Consumer Chief Marketing Officer, writes on the official Microsoft blog: “With the convergence of chat interfaces and large language models you can now ask for what you want in natural language and the technology is smart enough to answer, create or act. At Microsoft, we think about this as having a copilot to help navigate any task. “We have been building AIpowered copilots into our most used products – making coding more efficient with GitHub, transforming productivity at work with Microsoft 365, redefining search with Bing and Edge, and delivering contextual value that works across your apps and PC with Windows. “Today we take the next step to unify these capabilities into a single experience we call Microsoft Copilot, your everyday AI companion.” The roll-out of Copilot and its capabilities across Microsoft applications is an on-going process. Microsoft has already announced the availability of Copilot in Microsoft Shopping to provide shoppers with tailored recommendations; introduced Bing Chat for Microsoft Edge users and Bing Chat Enterprise for Microsoft 365, to generate content, analyse data, summarise documents, write code etc.; and included Copilot for Windows in the latest Windows 11 update. Accessible via the taskbar or the Win+C keyboard shortcut, Copilot for Windows provides assistance with apps, helping users to carry out everyday tasks faster and to a higher standard. Next, on November 1, Microsoft is introducing general availability for Microsoft 365 Copilot. Already used by tens of thousands of enterprise users through Microsoft’s Early Access Program (EAP), Microsoft 365 Copilot provides enterprise-grade security, privacy and compliance; integration with Microsoft 365 apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams); and what Microsoft calls a new hero experience, Microsoft 365 Chat. Going beyond basic questions and answers, this combs emails, meetings, chats, documents, the web and more to gain deeper understanding of the user’s role and priorities so that it can provide answers to complex work problems. To help people adopt AIenhanced working habits, Microsoft has also announced the Copilot Lab prompt database and learning tool. Once it is generally available, it will be integrated into Microsoft 365 Copilot and accessible (via a website) to all Microsoft 365 Copilot users. For more details, please visit www.microsoft.com
