QR code labels
QR codes that when scanned by smartphone
users automatically display text or contact
information, open a web page or play a video in
the phone’s browser are a common feature of
advertising and product packaging.
To capitalise on the trend, Herma is introducing
new self-adhesive QR code labels that can be stuck
virtually anyway. In the interests of readability, the
labels are opaque ensuring that nothing can show
through and give a false reading.
There are two types of label available – a 40
x 40mm version for QR codes only and a 80 x 40
mm format with room for additional text. Both
are suitable for inkjet or laser devices and come in
packs of 25 sheets.

Eat, drink and
socialise
SmartBox from zappit is a tabletop
mobile marketing tool that enables
hotels, pubs, cafés and restaurants to
interact with customers while they
drink a cup of coffee or eat a meal.
The small box displays a QR code
that when scanned with a smartphone
takes the customer to a mobile website
where they can enter competitions,
join loyalty schemes, find out about
upcoming promotions and so on.
One of the first businesses to trial
SmartBox, Ponti’s Italian Kitchen, is
using it in its West End restaurants on
Duke Street and Oxford Circus, to build
up its customer database.
Ponti’s Group marketing manager
Jennifer Payne said: “With SmartBox’s
assistance, we are looking to further
expand our CRM database, social
following, acquisitions and customer
feedback responses; whilst capitalising
on the huge loyalty we’ve cultivated
with our Grazie Loyalty Scheme.”
Mark Fraser, CEO and founder of
zappit said: “QR has really come of
age in 2012, helped by the increasing
ubiquity of smartphones and consumer
willingness to scan and engage with
QR Codes. SmartBox is a highly cost-
effective solution as well as being a
wonderful way for smaller restaurants
and hotels to engage immediately with
customers and improve CRM.”
As part of the SmartBox offering,
zappit helps with the creation and
management of campaigns; QR Code
generation for SmartBox; and the
creation of bespoke mobile experiences
for venues.
The other participants in the four-
week trial are Kaifeng in Hendon; The
Raglan in Muswell Hill; the Blue Legume
restaurants in Islington and Crouch
End; and The Flask pub and La Gaffe
restaurant and hotel in Hampstead.

Give your business
a boost with Avery’s new
marketing range
Avery is targeting small and medium-sized
businesses with a new range of printable
marketing materials such as business cards,
brochures, compliment slips, QR code labels,
price tags and wall signs.
The Solutions for Small Businesses range
delivers everything you would expect from Avery,
from high quality touches like smooth-edged
business cards and pre-scored brochures for easy
folding, to free design templates that can be
customised with your own artwork and branding.
Business Info
has been using Avery wall signs to
display magazine feature lists where they can be
seen most easily rather than simply on the nearest
noticeboard. Once printed and peeled from the
backing sheet, the sign sticks to almost any surface
from windows and walls to screens and the sides of
filing cabinets.
The repositionable, adhesive-free A4 sheets are
also ideal for temporary signage, from warning
signs in an office to special promotions in a shop.
Coinciding with the launch of the range, Avery
has brought out a free guide to winning new
customers and growing your business. Developed
with the help of THM The Business Training People,
the guide can be downloaded from
www.avery.co.uk/smallbiz.
