Modifications made by Arrow Electronics enable Schmidt, co-owner of the Arrow McLaren SP IndyCar team and former Indy Racing League driver, to drive the semi-autonomous motorcar (SAM Car) using head and mouth controls and voice commands. Infrared cameras mounted on the dashboard enable Schmidt to steer left by looking left and steer right by looking right, while a ‘sip-and-puff’ device enables him to accelerate or brake by inhaling or exhaling.
