PM encompasses a range of microscopic air-borne particles, from dust and pollen to pollutants emitted from cars, industrial activity, fires, stoves, cigarette smoke and even pets, which can irritate lungs, agitate pre-existing conditions, such as asthma, and contribute to heart attacks and coronary artery disease. Users can monitor levels via the customisable display, including colour- coded air quality checks, or via the app and online dashboard. airthings.com Eye to eye contact IRIS, a plug and play, all-in-one video conferencing solution from digital lifestyle accessories brand Trust International B.V., transforms almost any office space or small meeting room into a professional video conferencing space. Useful features include participant mode, which fits everyone present into the frame; speaker mode, which automatically zooms in on the person speaking; HDR mode for clear images in all light conditions; and built-in noise cancellation technology to block out ambient noise. IRIS can be used with any video conferencing application and costs £719 from Amazon. Pedal power A UK-first, carbon-free battery collection service implemented by Valpak Ltd, in partnership with logistics company Zedify and battery recycler Ecobat Logistics, has won the Partnership Excellence award at January’s National Recycling Awards. Under the scheme, cycle couriers collect used household batteries from workplaces in Cambridge and London at the same time as dropping off parcels, providing a carbon- free alternative to Valpak’s existing battery collection service, which has been running since 2009. Following the success of the scheme in London and Cambridge, which to date has collected more than 348,700 used batteries (weighing 6.97 tonnes), Valpak is hoping to extend it to other areas of its national collection network. www.valpak.co.uk DIY 5G The first commercially available 5G router optimised for industrial private networks has been launched by HMS Networks. The Wireless Router 5G supports Ericsson Industry Connect 5G networks and allows early adopters to get started with 5G in their own location. HMS also offers a starter kit for test and evaluation of industrial use cases that might benefit from the communication speeds and security offered by 5G. This includes the Wireless Router 5G and two industrial IO-Link sensors that send data across the 5G network. https://www.hms-networks.com/technologies/5G/ 5G-solutions-starterkits Putting the ToF in autofocus The latest addition to the ViewSonic M Series of smart portable LED projectors, the M2e Instant Smart 1080p, uses Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology to auto focus in just one second – three to five times faster than other methods – with automatic re-focusing if the projector is moved. Designed for home entertainment and working from home, the M2e weighs only 1kg so is light enough to be taken off-site in a handbag or backpack. Features include connectivity by WiFi, Bluetooth and USB; Full HD image quality; the ability to project an 80in image from 2.1 metres; and integrated dual speakers by Harman Kardon. www.viewsonic.com/uk/products/projectors/M2e The next generation Panasonic has launched the second generation of its TOUGHBOOK 33 rugged detachable notebook. Featuring a detachable keyboard and six usage modes, the 2-in-1 device is already a market-leader for public sector and field service workers in the UK, where it is used as the Mobile Data Terminal of choice by 35 fire services. Upgrades to the Windows 10 Pro device include 40% faster operation and a doubling of memory and storage capacity (to 16GB and 512GB respectively). There is also the option of a quick release, removable Solid State Drive for added data security. www.toughbook.eu Small but powerful Sharp UK has added four compact high-speed mono MFPs/printers to its A4 workgroup line-up.
