Radiation detector Finnish start-up Sensinite has developed a personal radiation detector for military or civilian use. The Algiz 8x integrates the company’s radiation detector with a rugged tablet from the Handheld group that can be carried by hand, in a case or mounted in a vehicle. When gamma radiation is detected, the Algiz 8x alerts the user on-screen and with sound and vibration. The radiation detector analyses dose rate, count rate and the running average; provides a graph of operational data; and, using GPS, can locate sources of gamma radiation on a map. www.sensinite.com www.radscanner.com 01732 759725 INNOVATIONS 06 Pick-up artistry PFU EMEA is bringing out two new Fujitsu scanners for continuous, high volume scanning of paperwork up to A3. The fi-7800 and fi-7900 include an Automatic Separation Control feature that boosts productivity by significantly reducing paper pick-up errors and the need for manual roller adjustments; a metal paper path that is claimed to produce less friction than resin pathways, reducing the risk of damage; and LED lighting to illuminate the scanners’ inner workings for easier cleaning. Both devices incorporate PaperStream IP software, which optimises scan quality for OCR accuracy, and PaperStream Capture, which recognises barcodes and different document types and automatically extracts key data points for faster processing. www.fujitsu.com/uk/about/local/ corporate/subsidiaries/fel/ Light fantastic The Trulifi family of LiFi systems from Signify (formerly Philips Lighting) delivers reliable, secure, high-speed wireless communication over a company’s lighting infrastructure. Instead of using radio signals (e.g. WiFi, 4G/5G, Bluetooth), LiFi uses light to send and receive data between optical wireless transceivers built into Philips luminaires and a USB access key plugged into a laptop. It offers guaranteed speeds of up to 150 megabits per second – fast enough to stream 30 1080p HDTV movies simultaneously – with seamless handover between light points, enabling employees to roam around an office and not lose connectivity. The LiFi spectrum is more than 1,000 times the size of the radio spectrum, making it ideal for busy areas such as multi-tenancy buildings, stations, airports and public venues; it can be used where radio frequencies don’t work well or at all (e.g. underground) or where they are not permitted; and it is secure, thanks to AES 128 encryption, the need for a USB access key and because light waves cannot penetrate walls. An early adopter of the technology, Belgian marketing agency Claerhout Communication Campus has retrofitted a Trulifi 6002 system to four Philips LED luminaires in a large meeting room at its office in Ghent. Business Development Manager Christoph Ruys said: “We wanted good quality, energy-efficient lighting and wireless connectivity capable of handling high resolution images, artwork and big data files. We’ve gone from offering our staff and clients 5 Mbps to a blistering 150 Mbps, and we can roam around freely as one light point hands off to another seamlessly. Trulifi adds an extra layer of security as light can’t pass through walls, so what’s in the room stays in the room. This is truly game-changing technology.” www.signify.com Made for open plan Yamaha Unified Communications has expanded its portable USB and Bluetooth speakerphone series with the YVC-330 virtual meeting solution. Designed to facilitate meetings in open, noisy working environments, the YVC-330 features new SoundCap technology, which provides crystal clear audio by eliminating background noise and zeroing in on the voices of speakers around a table. uc.yamaha.com Panoramic view The Jabra PanaCast is the world’s first smart panoramic-4K Plug-and-Play video solution for huddle rooms. The immersive system’s three 13 megapixel cameras work together as one to produce a 180-degree panoramic view that gives everyone in a room an equal presence. Built-in Intelligence continuously optimises the field of view to include everyone in a conversation and adjusts video to take account of light conditions. Built-in people detection technologies capture usage information that developers can use to create value-added services such as automatic room/calendar management and remote switching off of unused equipment. The £799 unit features a single USB cable for easy PC connectivity and instant setup, with no software required. It is compatible with popular cloud-based solutions, such as Microsoft Teams, Skype, Zoom, Cisco WebEx, Slack, Google Hangouts, GoToMeeting, Unify Circuit, BlueJeans and others. www.jabra.co.uk/business/video- conferencing/jabra-panacast ...more...
