A better way to print
Paper is not the only waste
product from printing. There are
also empty ink/toner cartridges
to think about, as well as
the packaging they come in.
Avoiding this waste is just one
of the environmental benefits
of Epson’s new Eco Tank range
of inkjet all-in-ones. Perfect for
small business and home use, the
printers come with enough ink to
last a typical user two or more
years. Just empty the ink bottles
supplied – the equivalent of 55
normal ink cartridges – into the
four large ink containers and start
printing. As well as generating less
waste, the printers slash the cost
of printing by 65% and use less
energy than laser devices.What’s
not to like.

Cool lighting
Developed as a replacement for 60W
incandescent light bulbs, the LifeBulb from
Zeta Specialist Lighting has a distinctive
design that helps keep LEDs cool for
a longer life – typically 30,000 hours
or 20 years with normal usage. The
bulbs are compatible with all common
triac dimming systems and, unlike most
energy-efficient bulbs, have no warm-up
time. The LifeBulb was developed at Zeta
Specialist Lighting’s R&D centre in Bicester
with funding from the Technology Strategy
Board and Defra’s Small Business Research
Initiative. The LifeBulb can be ordered online
at
.
Suspended illumination
New from Jake Dyson, Ariel suspension lighting casts consistent, high
quality 500 lux light over an area of 5 metres from a single point. It has
been designed for commercial and contract applications in offices and
workplaces, but would look just as good in a domestic kitchen or dining
area. Advanced cooling technology extends the LED life to more than
120,000 hours or 40 years. Adjustable baffles allow users to modify light
output to suit their particular environment.
Feel the quantity
Canon has expanded its cartridge
recycling programme with a bulk
collection option that enables
customers to recycle 30 genuine
Canon i-SENSYS cartridges at a
time. The bulk collection box has a
capacity of 25-30 units and, when
full, will be picked up free of charge
and taken to Canon for recycling,
re-use or energy generation. Since
starting the Canon Cartridge
Recycling Programme in 1990,
Canon has recycled 324,000
tonnes of cartridges globally
avoiding the need for 201,000
tonnes of new resources.
Solar-powered bus shelter
Clear Channel UK has launched a solar-powered bus shelter onWaterloo
Bridge, London using a solar LED lighting kit from Zeta Specialist Lighting.
Four solar panels on the Transport for London (TfL) bus stop convert
sunlight into energy, which is used to power the shelter’s courtesy light and
advertising panel. The integrated energy management system automatically
dims the lights in daylight and if power is running low.
Performance guaranteed
Mondi’s recycled paper brands Nautilus
SuperWhite and Nautilus ReFresh have been
awarded BLI Performance Certification
by the independent printer testing
organisation Buyers Lab Inc (BLI). The
certification indicates that the papers are
highly reliable, with excellent performance relating
to image quality, dusting and curl. Papers were tested on
15 different office imaging devices, including copiers, printers, fax machines
and multifunctional printers.
