Cloud printing services
from Google, Apple and HP
are severely limited, only
cover certain platforms and
scenarios and frequently only
work with certain printers
claims virtual printing
specialist Cortado.
As a result, mobile printing
is still not as easy as it should
be for users of multiple devices
who want to print from different
apps or for those who buy a
new printer or smartphone.
To overcome these limitations,
Cortado has just launched a
cloud printing app that works
across all printers, apps,
browsers and device platforms.
ThinPrint Cloud Printer, free
for personal use, turns a user’s
preferred printer, irrespective
of make or model, into a cloud
printer and combines local
printing from a smartphone
or tablet with printing from a
remote session.
This, says Cortado, means
that just one print solution
is needed whether you are
using Keynote from an iPad,
Printing on the move
Planon PrintStik is a battery-powered printer for mobile
professionals who require reliable, any time, anywhere printing.
Claimed to be the world’s smallest full-page portable Bluetooth
and USB printer, it offers 600dpi output from Android and
BlackBerry smartphones via Bluetooth and from computers and
laptops via USB. A new cloud-based subscription service (free
for the first year) simplifies the printing of web pages and email
attachments (documents, spreadsheets, PDFs, presentations, etc.)
from a smartphone. The Planon PrintStik takes 20-page rolls of
thermal paper.

E-invoicing could
save billions
European businesses could
save £205 billion and the
public sector £34 billion
by switching from paper
to electronic invoicing
(e-invoicing), Billentis claims
in a new report commissioned
by Ricoh. The European
Commission wants e-invoicing
to be the dominant form of
invoicing by 2020 (and by
2016 for the public sector).
Yet, according to the report,
just one in five invoices will be
electronic this year.
More than one third (35%)
of the 8.6 billion bills and
statements delivered to
consumers in the US will
be paperless by 2017,
Infotrends predicts in a
new report (The Future of
Multi-Channel Transactional
Communications in the
US). Last year, 17.7% were
delivered electronically.
Study director Matt
Swain said: “Bills and
statements are opened and
read more than any other
business communication.
As consumers increasingly
interact with their providers
on the Web, via mobile apps,
through e-mail attachments
and using consolidated
channels, it is critical for
providers to have a multi-
channel communications
strategy that optimises print
and electronic channels.”
Coca-Cola’s latest European
marketing campaign would
not have been possible
without digital printing
technology’s ability to
produce, personalised short-
runs cost-effectively and at
high speed.
The Share a Coca-Cola
campaign launched in 32
countries on May 1 substitutes
the Coca-Cola logo on bottles
of Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Light
and Coca-Cola Zero with 150 of
the most popular first names,
nicknames and terms of
affection in each country.
As many as 800 million
labels were produced by 8 label
converters across Europe using
a combination of conventional
printing technology and HP
Digital Presses. Static content
was printed conventionally, with
names added on 12 HP Indigo
WS6000 series Digital Presses
that ran 24 hours a day for
approximately three months.
Marit Kroon, marketing
manager, Europe for Coca-
Cola, said: “The ability to
personalise such a high volume
of labels with HP Indigo Digital
Presses, while achieving the
quality and consistency that
Coca-Cola requires, opens up
new possibilities for creative
campaigns moving forward.”

Cloud Printer is the answer
for all users who want to use
their favourite or default printer
with all their devices. With
complete independence from
devices, apps and platforms
used, Cortado is opening up a
completely new dimension of
cloud printing. Users who don’t
want to use a specific printer,
but instead prefer instant
printing in a Wi-Fi network,
can continue to use the cloud
printing function of Cortado
Workplace with a base level
of about 6,000 pre-installed
printer drivers.”

Another useful
solution for
ThinPrint and
Cortado Workplace
users is a Print-to-
ePaper printer driver
that allows users to send
important files, such
as travel documents, as
PDFs from a PC to mobile
devices for reading or printing
when offline. This feature is now
available for iOS devices enabling
users to ‘print’ documents to
iPads and iPhones.
