During the pandemic, many companies realised that their people and work environment needed to be better prepared for unexpected events and external restrictions. This inspired us to develop and launch our Smart Digital Workplace Assistant MyQ Roger. Where do you see the next big opportunity? It has happened to us that we are ahead of time with our new product and vision and thus ahead of market expectations. I believe that huge opportunities will open up for us once we explain it properly to our partners and their customers. What would make your day job easier? If someone cancelled or charged for emails. Sometimes I feel like I deal with too many details, which can then prolong the final work or decision. But I don’t think I’ll change that after 30 years. What’s the best bit of business advice you’ve been given? Aim high. Because if you pack your gear to climb the world’s highest mountain, you might not quite make it to the top, however, you don’t have to stop when you have the strength to keep going, but don’t have the proper gear with you. If you had had a crystal ball, would you have done anything differently? First, I would probably ask the ball if there was someone else who could make better use of it. Describe your most embarrassing moment. Probably when I was examined at school in front of a blackboard in subjects that prioritised memorising boring facts over using any logic. What was your first job? As soon as I started high school, I began programming a logistics and billing system for my dad. Simultaneously, I helped out in the other family business which was a tyre shop. But I remember fondly my part-time job at McDonald’s. I was fascinated by how they were able to produce the same tasty product with completely different people every time. What would be your dream job? I never looked for what I would enjoy, I always tried to have fun with what needed to be done. Therefore, I didn’t have to waste time thinking about life balance, career growth, or what-ifs. Fine dining and good wine, or curry and a pint? I first touched alcohol when I was 26. Beer followed five years later. This is very unusual in Czechia, where the best beer in the world is produced. We don’t eat much curry here, although I like Indian cuisine. I think I care more about who I eat with, rather than what I eat or where I eat it. Favourite holiday destination? Anywhere you can ski – on water or snow. How do you like to spend your spare time? What is that? Money’s not an issue, what’s your perfect car… and where would you like to drive it? Come to think of it, the perfect car was the first one I had – an old, rusty Lada. Every following car has been better, faster, more powerful, more reliable, but the choice you have to make at night in the rain, to turn on the lights or the wipers or the engine cooling when you’re stuck in traffic, is just unforgettable.
