These toners cannot be recycled and are well and truly in the single-use bracket of products and, in my opinion something that you want to stay well away from. They also lack proper testing and any compliance with environmental testing such as REACH, COSHH and RoHS. The remaining option – and the one which I’d encourage all consumers to consider when looking for a costeffective alternative option without sacrificing their need for quality, performance and reliability, is our Premium UK Remanufactured Toner Cartridges. These cartridges use the same original shell as an OEM name brand cartridge and look identical to OEM products with a finite number of differences. During our remanufacturing process each cartridge is disassembled, extensively cleaned, tested for quality and any damaged or worn components are replaced. The cartridge is then carefully reassembled, refilled with premium Japanese toner and tested a further number of times. ECS’s award winning remanufactured cartridges also comply with all mandatory environmental legislation and meet ISO9001, ISO14001 and ETIRA standards. All of which can be achieved at a fraction of the cost of an OEM name branded product while avoiding any environmental impact, providing you with THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. Following their recent Collector of the Year Award 2022 victory at the annual Recycler Awards Ceremony, we caught up with ECS’s Director, Chris Fink, to speak about some of the most pressing matters within the industry – in particular the difficult choice that consumers have to make over the type of cartridge they use, with factors such as cost and the environment being major influences over their final decisions in recent years. Here’s what Fink had to say… IT’S ALL ABOUT COST. Brexit and the pandemic have provided some major stumbling blocks throughout all operational layers of the print industry, from manufacturers and remanufacturers right the way through to distributors, suppliers, and ultimately the end-user. With more and more suppliers looking to save money and reduce their own costs, we’re seeing an increase in demand for OEM-alternative products. Compatible options provide a brand new cartridge which has its’ own unique design to differentiate it from their name brand counterpart and avoid any patent copyright issues, however, these cartridges, most often produced overseas, will still fit the machine that they’re intended for. Compatible cartridges don’t have the added research and development costs or frequent firmware technology updates associated with OEM toner cartridges, which allows their price to be kept incredibly low, ultimately leaving them as an attractive option for those looking to improve their bottom line. Buying compatible toner cartridges, however, is a DOUBLE EDGED SWORD. Compatible and new-build toner cartridges are the biggest culprits for landfill statistics within our industry – An ECS Remanufactured Kyocera TK5140 Yellow Toner Cartridge Chris Fink
