BULLETIN COVID put the cloud to test COVID-19 has forced a real-life, real-time digital transformation on the majority of enterprises, and many leaders have seen digital’s long-term value as a result. The latest research from Cloud Industry Forum (CIF) found that 69% of organisations have sped up their plans in some way as a result of the pandemic. 91% of decision-makers claimed that the cloud played an important part in their response, with 40% describing its role as critical. The most widely cited advantage is how it has enabled a swift transition from office to home working (54%), with greater organisational agility (44%), the ability for business to continue as usual (42%), and easier scalability (33%) also widely mentioned. Alex Hilton, CEO, Cloud Industry Forum, said: “Our research found that just over a third of respondents had a digital transformation strategy in place before the arrival of COVID-19, which likely gave them the impetus to act quickly during the sudden shift to home working. An additional 38% were in the process of implementing one before the pandemic, while 14% were forced to scale up their plans as lockdowns began to bite.” www.cloudindustryforum.org Remote connectivity issues Paessler research found IT teams were able to successfully monitor the network during the pandemic, but supporting home workers was more challenging with problems connecting to corporate systems from the employee’s home. When asked about how their corporate IT systems have fared with more employees working from home, over half of respondents agree that their systems have coped very well – just 5% said there had been challenges. 31% of IT admins named issues with video conferencing technology, such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams, as the second biggest challenge when it comes to remote working. www.paessler.com Digital leaders leverage the cloud More than eight out of 10 companies, considered digital leaders by IDC, are turning to a hybrid cloud approach as they adopt public cloud services to improve IT service delivery. This is according to the analyst’s latest survey, sponsored by Virtana. The survey found that digital leaders are most open to public clouds, with nearly one in four (23%) digital leaders using public cloud services compared to just 10% of digital followers. Yet, despite predictions that many companies would move completely to the public cloud, all companies surveyed have a strong preference for maintaining on-premise IT environments for critical applications. IDC defines digital leaders as the top 25% of companies that invest most heavily in a range of advanced technologies, including public cloud services, that enable them to build an intelligent, automated, and agile IT infrastructure. www.idc.com A third of businesses plan to downsize A new report from Robert Walters – The Future of Work in UK & Ireland – highlights the potential for many businesses to establish a ‘hub & spoke’ business model which addresses both the flexible needs of the employee, and the commercial and financial needs of the company. Research conducted by the firm revealed that over a third of business leaders are considering downsizing their primary office space – amid a long-term shift to remote working. www.robertwalters.co.uk Workers demand green office technology Epson research found that 46% of workers expect their employers to provide them with green tech equipment, including laptops and printers. The survey of 4,000 workers revealed: 50% of business decision-makers are focusing more on their environmental impact than at the start of 2020; 84% believe green tech credentials are important and 45% of employees consider energy-efficient office equipment an essential. Sustainability Manager Daniel Quelch, said: “Sustainability is rising in importance and is a key priority for many businesses today. It’s a positive move, with workers now expecting their employers to actively choose green equipment and be more environmentally friendly.” www.epson.co.uk PRINTITRESELLER.UK 7 01732 75972 5 1680 We can buy your unused toners As a Managed Print Service provider, we understand how important it is to deliver the best value and performance to your customers.
