01732 759725 50 AND FINALLY James Pittick, Director of B2B Indirect Sales, Canon UK 60 seconds with… What’s currently having the greatest impact on your business? Internally we have implemented a major transformational change, enabling us to better serve our partners and customers. Externally, the continual advancement of digital technologies and the ever-increasing mass of digital information and data presents us all with some challenges, but more importantly, real opportunity. Where do you see the next big opportunity? For me, it would be in the evolving technological advancements we are experiencing and the increasing need to effectively manage this mass of digital information. As a strong and diverse global technology company, Canon is well placed to explore these opportunities with our partners and to support them in delivering real value to their customers. What would make your day job easier? I’m sure we could all do with more time, but in the absence of a time machine, I would say being more agile. The world is transforming to an “always on” state and our expectations as consumers is to have the content, information, product or service in the exact way we want it, at the exact time we want it. These high expectations are in turn driving a huge change in the B2B environment. Agility is now key to serving our partners. What’s the best bit of business advice you’ve been given? That it is ok to make mistakes, but you should act fast and resolve them swiftly. Then, of course, you need to make sure you don’t make the same mistake twice! If you had had a crystal ball, would you have done anything differently? No, I really don’t think I would have done anything differently. Learn faster perhaps, but the experiences you have are what shape the person you become, so I wouldn’t change them. Describe your most embarrassing moment. Tough to think of an answer I was happy to go to print here! However, on a holiday to Fuerteventura, I was walking along the beach front past some sand sculptures with my daughter (who was 4 at the time). One of them was of Homer Simpson sitting on a sofa and as there was no one around, I got her to sit on the sofa (made from sand), next to Homer for a photo. Everything was going well until she decided to get up and leant on the arm of the sofa, causing it to crumble and collapse! Needless to say we made a hasty retreat to our hotel. What was your first job? I joined the Army straight from school and qualified as a mechanical engineer in the Royal Electrical and Mechanic Engineers. What would be your dream job? I’ve always liked the idea of working as a Marine Biologist, specifically studying sharks and working on shark conservation. Fine dining and good wine, or curry and a pint? This really depends on who I’m eating with! I love both, but if pushed I’d have to pick fine dining and good wine. Money’s not an issue, what’s your perfect car… and where would you like to drive it? I’d love to drive the McLaren Senna around my favourite circuit: Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. Favourite holiday destination. Hamilton Island, off the coast of Queensland Australia near the Great Barrier Reef. How do you like to spend your spare time? I really enjoy spending quality time with my family. Apart from that I also like doing CrossFit and watching Fulham FC, especially when we win! Photo by Jakob Owens on Unsplash
