Print IT Reseller - issue 138

01732 759725 50 One day I can be delivering sales training to a partner’s sales team, the next I can be on a technical call discussing a global PaperCut rollout with a partner, their end-user and the iTS technical services team, as well as speaking with our suppliers about our regional strategy for the next six months. What’s been the most defining moment in your career so far, and how did it shape your approach to leadership? Towards the end of 2008, I was working in solutions sales for what was then a copier company. Up until that point I’d spent a couple of years in hardware sales but mostly in software roles and I was asked to take on a hardware sales role for one of the regions they looked after. I did that in conjunction with heading up the professional services team which gave me a great understanding into the world of MFD and printer sales. This has helped me in my current role as it gave me a great insight into the hardware sales process, and the joys and pain our partners’ sales team go through to get orders over the line. What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve ever received and how has it influenced your journey? I’ve been given lots of advice over the years but one that sticks in my mind is: if you’re early you’re on time, if you’re on time you’re late, and if you’re late don’t bother! If you had had a crystal ball, would you have done anything differently? I don’t think I would have done anything differently. The roles I’ve had in this industry have led me to where I am today and given me the skills I need to be successful. Apart from that, maybe I should have spent more time playing and practising golf – now there’s a job I wouldn’t mind doing, just a shame I’m no good at it! When did you first join the print sector and what attracted you? I feel like a ‘lifer’ in the print sector! I joined Rank Xerox in August 1990 when they ran an Office of the Future Training scheme which was aimed at school leavers and 36 years later, I’m still in the industry. What’s the most rewarding part of your current role, and what keeps you motivated day to day? There’s been lots of rewarding moments over nearly eight years at iTS, such as growing the region year on year, onboarding new partners and inviting partners to venues such as Edgbaston Cricket Ground, London Stadium, Silverstone and Newbury Racecourse to showcase products in our portfolio. However, I would say that winning the award for Best Partner Programme at the 2025 PrintIT Awards has to be right up there. In terms of staying motivated, as cliché as it sounds, every day is different which keeps the role interesting. John Caspell, Channel Partner Manager UK&I, iTS 60 seconds with…. AND FINALLY What would be your dream job? Flying around the world being paid to play golf, how good would that be? As I can’t do that and as cheesy as it sounds, I think it’s important to love the job you do to be able to give it your best and that’s what I’m doing. Money’s not an issue, what’s your perfect car…and where would you like to drive it? It may not be the most expensive car in the world, but I’ve always had a soft spot for the MK1 Golf GTI convertible. I had a 1975 VW Golf (not the GTI or convertible unfortunately) as my first car and I keep saying I need to treat myself one day. Icefield Parkway in Canada looks an amazing route to drive. Fine dining and good wine or a curry and a pint? I like both but you can’t beat a good curry and pint. How do you like to spend your spare time? Weekends are a lot more relaxing than they used to be when I was Caspell Cabs running my kids around to different clubs. I tend to spend my weekends with my family, eating out, going for the occasional run, watching Spurs on TV (not a great watch at the moment) and switching off before the working week starts again. Favourite app, and why? Not sure I have a favourite app but the one I use the most outside of work is Spotify. When I’m out in the car or running I always listen to a good podcast. Favourite holiday destination? Orlando, we’ve never had a bad holiday there and even though I have grown up children whenever we discuss a family holiday, they still want to go there first. Last film you watched? A 90s classic, A Few Good Men. John Caspell
