PrintIT Reseller - issue 115

50 RISING STAR Sebastian Turner, Document Management Sales Specialist, Northamber PLC 60 seconds with… When did you first join the print sector and what attracted you? I joined Northamber in May last year. I wanted to join this sector and follow in my uncle’s (James Wicks) footsteps. He started in the same kind of role as mine, selling copiers on the Tottenham Court Road and went on to be highly successful in the industry. My mum also ran an IT reseller company so, you could say this industry runs in the family. I also used to work in construction as an assistant project manager, so I fancied something a little less taxing on the body! What do you enjoy most about your job? Every day is different, and I get to talk to lots of different people. I am a Brother and Kodak Alaris specialist here and I really enjoy building some fantastic relationships with my customers. What’s the best bit of business advice you’ve been given? It’s a quote that applies to business and life and it was given to me by my former boss in construction. “Love many, trust few and always paddle your own canoe.” It’s an old American proverb I believe. What would make your day job easier? A smaller commute, I travel in from Liphook and it’s about an hour and 40 minutes each way, but that will come when I (hopefully) pass my driving test later this year. Which company do you most admire outside of our industry? Gymshark – they provide well-priced gym gear and have many schemes in place to inspire people into fitness. The company’s co-founder and CEO Ben Francis is a brilliant young entrepreneur, he founded the company out of his bedroom in his parents’ house at age 19 and he is definitely someone to look up to. What excites you most about the future? The opportunity for progression here at Northamber. And continuing to better myself both professionally and in my home life. The best thing is that in life we get the opportunity to be the best person we can be. Times can get tough, but I believe in focusing on the person you want to be and ensuring you concentrate on the positives and on yourself. The exciting thing about the future is that we get to shape it ourselves. PRINT IT RESELLER MAGAZINE RISING STARS Sebastian Turner Early bird or night owl? A bit of both really, but if I had to choose, I’d say I am more a night owl. Favourite app and why? Spotify, so I can listen to my music and podcasts anytime. One screen, two or more? Three is the magic number! Favourite quote / motto? As mentioned earlier, “Love many, trust few and always paddle your own canoe.” But as I’ve already cited that one, then I’d probably go for one from Michael Jordan – “You miss 100% of the shots you never take.” Last film you watched? Nobody – I’d definitely recommend it. The main character is quite unassuming on the surface but deep down he’s a hero. How do you like to spend your spare time? I spent a lot of my spare time in the gym, and I also love spending time outside in nature. I used to breed chickens in lockdown, at one point I had 70, that’s down to 25 now but they still need a lot of tlc!!
