PRINTITRESELLER.UK 41 Earth Month and EU proposals reduce their spend while maintaining a high level of quality. Usually, having more companies within the industry with circular intentions should be looked upon positively, but in this case, the presence of more organisations hiding behind false claims and titles damages the industry further, particularly those of us who do actually provide genuine environmentallyfriendly solutions. These types of poorly remanufactured products provided by these companies consequently give true remanufactured products a poor reputation, as they often malfunction or don’t provide the expected quality of a high-level remanufactured toner, therefore we as genuine remanufacturers suffer, but so does the environment, as customers who have these experiences tend to revert back to using OEM products. The new proposal will create a level playing field for companies than genuinely improve their products’ environmental sustainability, prevent unfair competition and provide consumers with reliable information to make informed choices. Companies will have to independently verify and prove their claims with scientific evidence before communicating them to consumers. Remanufacturers like ourselves will have to regularly review their processes and supply chains to ensure that all materials are environmentally sustainable, production processes meet criteria and shipping methods are appropriate – all of which we continue to do at Effective Consumable Solutions. We very much welcome and encourage the changes that this proposal will hopefully bring. https://www.therecycler.com/posts/ eu-proposes-new-rules-to-combatgreenwashing/ To Become an ECS Partner, visit www.ecs-uk-ltd.co.uk/partner-us How significant is Earth Month? Earth month is a time when environmental issues take centre stage, particularly within our industry. This is a time for raising environmental awareness and create consciousness around the issues that affect the environment during this time, even more-so with the ongoing environmental battle that we’re all involved in for the foreseeable future. Every April, environmental activists and leaders, such as ourselves, come together to encourage and create sustainable development as well as to offer climate changing solutions. By operating at the forefront of the campaign to reduce, reuse and recycle the waste that our industry’s products and services produce, we feel responsible for educating companies on the impact that their choices have, both in terms of product type (remanufactured, OEM, compatible) as well as the importance of using a fully compliant recycling scheme, which we try to do through our offering of a completely circular solution. Why are the European Commission’s latest proposals good news for ECS and the industry? The European Commission’s most recent proposal to the Green Claims Directive is one which is most welcome to us; to establish minimum norms for companies making “green claims” and prevent misleading marketing practices known as greenwashing. As it stands, there are a number of companies we’re aware of, both within the UK and Europe that claim to be green pioneers and remanufacturers of toner cartridges, which certainly isn’t true. The number of companies claiming to have these green reputations and solutions have risen in recent months and years as remanufactured toner cartridges are becoming ever more popular with companies looking to BUSINESS BRIEFING ECS’s Director Chris Fink discusses the importance of new EU proposals regarding greenwashing, coinciding with Earth Month +44 (0)1427 337 346 www.ecs-uk-ltd.co.uk Remanufactured Toners For Those Who Demand Quality, Performance and Reliability Reliability A Fully Compliant Service For Your WEEE Waste www.greener-side.co.uk
